Double discount at Guitar Center

I did work there. It's not by branch, it's corporation-wide policy. What the other guy is calling "cost" is probably what his manager told him was "cost", so your friend was telling the truth as he knows it. The managers do not want the sales staff thinking there is any room to cut the prices below a certain level. But that level is not the actual cost to the store: it is the cost plus a markup for operations overhead, plus a manager's markup, and they might have another one too, I don't recall. They pad the cost so that even when an employee buys gear, or they cut a deep discount for a customer, the store is still covering its operational expenses.

Sounds like a good opportunity to spread some karma...feel like selling me some gear at cost? :D

haha maybe . When the owner said that I dont think he understood my problem , if he buys for like 50% off, I will say "ok one P , one Jazz , lets get a couple warwicks and throw in some musicmans oh btw order me every Classic vibe squier".

I think he meant it as a one time thing but I will see what I can get away with:D

Let's be certain about one thing - the financial consequences of this hasn't hurt GC one iota. I'm sure they are embarassed, and have also learnt something, but they continue to be the money machine they always were. The fact they let so many of these orders go through to delivery means they know they screwed up and were willing to concede the tiny financial hit. You can be sure they had the means to identify and stop ALL those orders in 5 minutes after the issue was found - if they wanted to...they effectively said 'you had the balls to try it, and got away with it, so good luck to you!'

No vote necessary - I can live with myself.

Is it possible to add a poll to this thread?

I'd suggest a multi-poll with questions like:

1) Do you it was is ethical to have used those coupons ?

2) Did you get the item(s) you ordered ?
a) yes
b) no

3) What do you think is the estimate GC's financial loss ? (taking into account that roughly %20 of people who actually saw and used thouse coupons posted back to this thread, so actually there might be a lot more people who succeeded).

a) $ 50.000
b) $ 100.000
c) over $ 150.000
