I'm having issues with the miter saw - bottom left in the pictures. I can't get the pin that locks the head down to budge, so I haven't been able to do anything with that yet.

I got the rest of the little bits put onto the planer and jointer, added some new nuts to the dust deputy to replace the ones that apparently fell off inside the bucket and got tossed with the sawdust, and hooked the dust deputy to the dust collector.

I guess the next step aside from getting the miter saw figured out is to clean and paste wax the metal parts on all the tools, then check the tables for levelness. I still have several smaller boxes to unpack too ...and workbenches to build ...and I don't even have most of my wood moved over to my house yet, but I need to figure out where exactly I'm going to setup my wood storage.

I haven't used it yet, but seriously hoping to this weekend. I need to build a gate for my fence, but I also needed to get the tools out and setup before I could do that. It looks like a good one for the price. It doesn't come with a blade, so I picked up one while I was there.

It's kind of huge, I'll try to take a picture of it later next to something you can judge the size by.

Something I didn't know it had, that I saw when reading through the manual, is it has a depth stop you can setup so it doesn't saw all the way through and it has me kind of wondering if fret slots would be possible on it with the right blade.

Its a 12" saw right?

I usually buy Ryobi tools if I am buying a cheaper brand of tool. The Ryobi I am looking at is only a 10" saw so the HF one has me intrigued. I really like the Bosch saw because of the way the slide works lets it sit all the way against a wall, but I am not looking to spend $600 on a miter saw

Yeah, it's a 12".

Okay, it might not be as huge as I initially thought when I was pulling it out of the box, but it's big compared to the ones I'm used to, which are probably 10", non-sliding, non-bevel miter saws. I'm not sure how much this will be used for guitars and basses aside from cutting down the length of wood. I have a list of furniture to build though so I thought it'd be useful, especially with not having a table saw.

Yes, I build a bunch of furniture as well. A miter saw makes life much easier

I figured I'd take some pictures of the other tools too:

I'll need to screw/bolt these 2 down to the tables.

The 2.5" to 4" adapter doesn't fit the dust deputy, it must need a 2.25". I figured I'd use the 4" hose for tools that have a 4" port and the 2.5" for tools that have 2.5. I could put the 4" hose between the dust collector and dust deputy, but figured the dust deputy will hopefully be catching all the big stuff before going into the collector, so 4" seems more useful on the other end.

I'll see if I can get an adapter for whatever size the port on the miter saw is too.

I plan to use the dust hood (big black thing on the end of the 4" hose) as a router dust catcher. I'm hoping that will work...

Ive been using the HF 10" sliding miter saw for a few years now in a production environment, and after you set it up and adjust it (very necessary), it works quite well. We've had two, the first one bit the dust when they had us trying to cut pieces that were stupidly small, and it picked up one of them and shattered the blade guard. Second one had a laser that was quite helpful and its been going strong for a couple years now.

If only I could find time to finish getting it setup and actually use it! Hopefully soon. Haha. Some of the other stuff in the new house life is winding down.

Okay, I officially have all of the tools ready for use. The workshop is looking better, but I obviously still have boxes to empty and more stuff to move in:

I started making a gate for my fence. I just have to cut the curve on the top (drawn in maker), screw the boards together, and stain/paint it. That shouldn't take long.

Doing that gave me a chance to test out my new miter saw. I think it's great. The blade I have on it left a super smooth finish too.

I have a dedicated fret slot saw made from a bottom line sliding miter saw. I absolutely love it.

Not to be an alarmist but I had that same saw for quite a while until recently. A friend was helping me rebuild my deck when he went to use it and VERY narrowly avoided serious injury. That blade guard is seriously lacking in stability and when he pulled the saw down to make a cut something happened and the guard got kicked into the blade and pretty much exploded in his face. He ended up with a bunch of cuts all over but luckily nothing needing stitches. As another stroke of luck, he had finally put on the safety glasses I bought for him.

On the other hand I was able to get years of use out of the saw prior to that and I wasn't watching when it happened, but it's definitely a weak point to be aware of.
