Ehhh, at 53-51, I'd say it's a dead heat.

However, I have to +1 the poster that got made about the EB forum campaigning for EB votes in this thread. IMHO, if you intentionally flood a poll in one direction, it's a good way to invalidate the poll... not that folks from other forums aren't welcome to read/post, but as soon as you make it a pointed campaign to skew results, it's wrong. Again, IMHO of course.

Finally, someone posted the Bongo was more versatile. Well, I have to do a qualified -1 on that.

While it's probably true the bongo has more diff tone settings, IMHO, it's a typical MM in that it has a base personality which is always very much there, whereas the Peavey does sound like a hifi version of a great Fender with a little Smith mixed in. IMHO, this really makes the Cirrus more "versatile" in that it can more easily cop all the most widely used popular bass tones, whereas the Bongo is more like a MM with more MM sound options.

This is such a load of crap that I just had to comment on it.

YOU might not have been able to get away from any Musicman sound, but I can assure you that MY Bongos with the neck pickup soloed sounded NOTHING LIKE any other Musicman. With the 4 band EQ and the pickups (plus piezos) I can get a sound very similar to a Jazz Bass, or a PBass. Heck, I can even get a Ric sound out of my fretless if I so desire.

The B strings on both of my 5 strings sound great. No unwanted 'clack' or 'tings' to speak of. The roundwounds on my fretless mwah with the best of them, and the flats on my fretted goes boom with clarity and distinction, too.



Both the Cirrus and Bongos are great basses. One of them is 35" scale, and the other is 34". So, that needs to be taken into consideration, as well. My hands don't like 35" scale basses after 3 hours of gigging. And, my ears have never heard a 35" scale B string that sounded any better than a 34" scale B string of quality.

I can't say the same about the effects of 35" scale on D and G strings. The 35" scale upper strings have invariably sounded much worse to my ears.

What are you? 12? You are going to let some poll tell you what to buy? You need to spend time playing both so that you can make a wise decision that you won't regret. But by all means, use the results of your "skewed" poll. What are you gonna do next, post a poll for what color you want?

This thread has turned ugly.
Jesus Christ, calm the hell down. Nothing is decided by this poll, I only wanted an accurate representation of a group whose opinions I trust. After playing a Lakland today, I am not too sure about either of those two, so I would shut the **** up if I were you.

I voted for the Cirrus.

I got to play my first Bongos at the NYC get-togther last August, and they are indeed extremely versatile basses when you consider the two humbucker model with that wild 4 band EQ it's got.

I also played my 3rd Cirrus that same day, and ended up buying it about six weeks later. (Thanks again, David W. :) )

They are both excellent basses, and a Bongo is probably next on my list, but the Cirrus definitely spoke to me a little more clearly that day.

These are my opinions of the best points of each bass:

Bongo: Extreme versatility, Stingray tone is there, very comfortable to play, very good B string.

Cirrus: Comes as close to the P-bass tone as possible (neck pup soloed) goes from vintage vibe to hi-fi, very comfortable to play, excellent B string.

I chose the Cirrus mainly because its tone was a little more to my liking, and it felt slightly more comfortable to play to me. I'm also starting to prefer the feel of the 35" scale, though this was not a factor when I bought it.

A man who owns both is a lucky man indeed. :cool:
