Down with craigs list

When used properly, Craigslist can be a very useful site. Many folks misuse it and a good percentage of folks have no clues as to how to place an ad! No descriptions, no pictures or piss poor pics, etc! Then you have your scammers but basically, any educated consumer will know an inflated price when they see one! I have sold quite a few items using Craigslist and have also bought quite a few items. I do think it should moderated but I think the site is too large so they rely on flagging.

If you want to be part of the solution and the solution and not the problem, I urge you to use the flagging feature. IME when I see a CL posting that I think needs to be flagged, other folks agree with me and the next time I look, it's gone.

No the other one did not get removed. And yes even I admitted I had a brain fart moment. Also being some what computer aliterate wasn't quite sure how the whole flagging thing worked. Now I know and knowing is half the battle.

I like the gear aspect of craigslist. I've sold a lot of stuff and bought some stuff. Never had a problem.

I have, however, never heard a positive story about the musician's section. Seems like that is pretty much useless.

craigslist is the perfect example of YMMV. In kc, the musicians wanted cl is horrible. A guy posted an ad in spanish, and people ripped him a new butt hole and told him if he was in 'merica, that he should learn english. NO one can post anything there without a series of RE: posts.... it's kind of bad.

Nothing but great CL experiences here. Bought an amazing A/V desk for $50. Guy was cool enough to pack it up and help me load it in my car.

Met a cool cat that I do Real Book jams every week with. Through him I've met a bunch of other great jazz players that live locally.

i buy most of my stuff off craigslist. you just gotta ignore the junk and chinese/nigerian/korean scam ads and know that there are still normal people on there trying to get rid of good stuff. The scams are easy to spot usually riddled with type-os and links to "super cool websites" that sell nintendo wii's for a dollar.

If its too good to be true, then it might be, but i've found some absolute excellent deals on there...


as far as arguing and RE: posts in certain forums, yeah, sometimes it gets out of hand, and there are always gonna be retards out there that do stuff like that but i just flag and keep going. Some of it is quite entertaining...

I would have flagged your RE post....but only right before i flagged his also. Remeber that the posts are listed in reverse chrono order so you'll get flagged first because your post is newer than his.

One thing that is totally out of hand in atlanta is the musician section. I have to weed through 10-12 "buy our stuff (website, pictures, record deal, radio play)" ads before getting to any decent musician ad.

Personally, I think CL is awesome! I met my girlfriend via the CL Rant & Rave section. I met the last two girls I dated before my girlfriend via the CL strictly platonic section. I found a Warwick FNA 4 string with OHSC for $500 on CL. The guy was moving overseas and needed to liquidate stuff ASAP. I found a Epifani T-310 NYC with a cover for $350. I bought a Dell laptop on CL for $100. It was loaded with Vista. The keyboard was damaged and it reeked of cigarette smoke. So I bought a new keyboard (Around $15 I think) and took the whole thing apart, cleaned it thoroughly, pooped the new keyboard in and sold it on ebay for just over $400. I bought a 6 string Spector Legend on CL for $225 then sold it later on ebay for just over $500.


Craigslist is awesome. :hyper:
