Just yesterday I saw an add in the musical Instruments section were a guy is selling his 80's vintage B.C. Rich guitar. All good right? But then some other guy does a RE: post ripping the guy selling his guitar, informing him what a joke his add is and his item is a rip off. My wife has also seen many of these RE: posts in the sections she peruses. No longer able to just sit buy I stoop to the reposters level. I try to defend the guy selling his guitar stating he has the right to get what ever he can for his item, and that nobody was forcing him to buy it. Then I suggested that if he wanted to complain (I used the female dog word) he should go join a forum for that sort of thing and that the list wasn't for that. I GOT FLAGGED AND REMOVED. I believe I'm losing interest in the list if thats what it is turning in to.

CL is weird.
I see that crap all the time too and also find it annoying but what ya gonna do? Obviously posting your own reply isn't going to help.
A couple months ago someone posted on the Dallas CL trying to improve the mood by mentioning his positive experiences and asking for others to do the same. I had some good experiences that I was glad to share and my post was flagged and removed pretty quickly.

I've never used it, but have witnessed what you mentioned. Seems some people will use it as a message board rather than a classified listing. I guess some people have nothing better to do than police it or basically just be a bunch of asshats. Ranks right up there with the youtube comment section.
Hmm, as long as you represent your items truthfully and don't try and scam too much money yourself, it's a good resource for the local community. I've sold a few things on Cl and a few trades, and all went well.
This is what I was going to say.
Regardless, it can be a good resource. Plus, I have no doubt maki has utilized CL to score at least a few Asian trannys!

IMO it's like NYC, Chicago, LA, Atlanta... Tons of scary and sheisty stuff happens there every day, but tons of awesome and worthy stuff happens there too. If you never go, avoiding the bad stuff, you miss out on the good stuff.

I can't vote- there's no 'Never been more than a comically-awful version of TB classifieds'

I did snag a nice Ibanez Echo Machine delay for $20 through CL once(they go for over $100 on ebay, but I will never part w/it).

I seem to be a magnet for "dimensionally-challenged" idiots whenever I try to sell something on Craig's List.
Example #1: I listed a Queen Sized Mattress on CL. Title of my listing said "Queen Sized Mattress". Content of my listing mentioned that the mattress was Queen Sized. Title of the email that the interested buyer sent me in response to my listing included the phrase "Queen Sized Mattress". Our email thread continued for 4 or 5 exchanges in order to nail down exactly when the buyer could come pick it up; each one of those emails included the phrase "Queen Sized Mattress" in its subject line.
Guy finally comes over to pick it up, takes one look at the mattress, and says "Oh, that's much too big! What size did you say it was?"
Example #2: I listed an Ikea bookshelf on Craig's List. The very first bit of information in the content of my listing (after the make, model, & color) were the specific dimensions of the unit. I also included a link to the Ikea webpage for that particular item; right in the middle of that webpage are the specific dimensions of the unit. A guy emails me expressing his interest in buying the unit. We go back and forth, trying to coordinate when he can come pick it up. Just before we nail down a date & time he asks "What are the dimensions again?" I email him the specific dimensions of the unit. He responds to that email, and we set up a time for him to come by.
Guy finally comes over to pick it up, takes one look at the bookshelf, and says "Oh, that's much too small! This won't work at all, sorry."

Responding to the first RE: post with another RE: post, with inflammatory language, IMO that's doing way more harm than good. If that kind of stuff went unchecked, before long CL would be 99% flame-fest.
So even though you're upset, I'm sorry but I'm glad that your RE: RE: post got removed. (Hopefully the RE: post you were responding to also got removed.)
If you want to be part of the solution and the solution and not the problem, I urge you to use the flagging feature. IME when I see a CL posting that I think needs to be flagged, other folks agree with me and the next time I look, it's gone.
Was this on Philly Craigstlist? Because I'm pretty sure that I flagged that post. You got flagged because, as you admitted yourself, your post was no better than the one you responded to. You're part of the problem and your post deserved to be flagged. Next time, just flag the offending post and move on.
I've found two great places to live in the for rent section, everything else is spam and garbage. In Utah we have the ksl.com classifieds which is what craigslist is supposed to be IMO.

I've bought and sold lots of stuff on CL. Face-to-face, cash deals only. Works fine. The Re: posts are very entertaining.
I love when someone finds what they deem is a rip-off on CL then goes through the trouble of starting a thread on TB about it. Oh, and the irony of me posting about it is not lost on me...the circle continues

So, rather than posting a Re: which is a violation of the TOS and getting flagged, why didn't you just flag the first Re?

I feel your pain. The local CL musicians section can be a roller coaster of stupid at times. It's embarrassing to even be in the same state with some of those posters
