Dr. Cheese, you have my respect. I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I'm a touch younger (61) but realize that it can take a bit of effort to get a fair price sometimes. A task I don't want to leave to my wife and kids.
Ironically, the toughest choice I may have to make is which Peavey to hang on to.

I hear ya and feel ya: Im getting up there too.....for the longest time, I had 15 to 17 basses......a few years ago I decided to thin the herd down to 4 or 5 and, after wheeling and dealing, I wound up with 27 basses ( facepalm). Apparently, I didn't do Thin The Herd correctly....then I started my YouTube channel and had a reason to keep a lot of them fir a little bit. I'm getting ready to start to sell a bunch off....I'll be keeping my Peavey Cirrus, Ibanez BTB, G&L ASAT, Fender Deluxe Jazz, and two Yamahas: a RBX774 and RBX775....I'm on the fence about my Stingray HH, 1980 Fender Precision Special, Yamaha TRBX 605, and Peavey Dyna Bass 5......everything else is going to go including my Peavey T40 ( no longer on the fence about it)......best of luck to you figuring it out

Just checking the "joined" dates of a lot of us in this thread... many of us (me included) have been TalkBass members for 20 years! Yeah, I could lose a few of my basses, too!
I have been posting about doing this for a while; then bought another bass, and nearly another 2 because they were on massive sale, but eventually resisted.
The market is dead at the moment and I think it's going to take some time to recover, so my plan is to get all the basses and guitars that can go, give them full set ups, fret dresses etc as needed and list them say EOFY and see what happens. Most are 4s and I never play them, and I have new string sets, time and the tools to make them really nice, so I'll just do it and see what the interest is. Worst case is I dust them off periodically whilst I wait.
Part of my Christmas Resolutions, which are much more meaningful to me than NY's ones, was to make a list of what to keep and maintain that number.
There is nothing in the Beatles' "When I'm Sixty-four" about getting rid of basses.

I have a Delica that I bought back in 2001 and had in my pocket every day for almost a decade. And it shows. The Endura is a bit on the heavy side to lug around
@TheReceder has an awesome Peacock Blue Cirrus 4. I would love to have that in my collection with my Peacock Blue 5.
I am early 70's and moved where gigs and bands are few. I realized I had way too much stuff and am now down to just a couple basses 2 amps and 2 cabs. My survivors could easily sell or donate the balance.

I’ve seen most of your videos and that Peavey always sounds like the right bass for the song.
You have had this bass close to 9 years. This might very well be the Dr. Cheese signature bass!! Like Marcus and his Fender Jazz, Bernard with his StingRay, you and this bass are a perfect match.

Elucidation required! What do I have to do/sell to cheat death?
I have hacked some of the basses I have for playability -- like my 2 hippie sandwich. Heel area surgery - works for me but can't sell them. I'd lose too much money. at best when push comes to showed. I'll part the hardware out and make art of the wood. And I won't mind letting go of my complete nice looking bases. 8 is my number
No pocket knives. My father in law was in the trenches in Vietnam and he gifted us his 2 ka-bars, I bring it when I am backpack camping more as a utility. No clue about pocket knives. I did not know they are a thing to collect.

Back to one bass after selling two yesterday , will not be buying any gear in 2024 . Like Clint Eastwood said " Sometimes a man has to know his limitations".
Oh wow. I was expecting pre-70s funky pearloid or wood side plates and fancy engraving. Those are actual modern good knives that some of my bosses have had. Very nice.
I got my first pocket knife in 1965, when my father gave me a little yellow Imperial Jack knife. There has been a huge amount churn in my knife collection over the years.

I've too many basses, 17 of them and a bunch of spare bass parts. And, a classic pocket knife collection of about 80. By the way, I asked a TB Mod one time if knives could be sold on, Other Stuff (not bass related) and I was told, "no".
In addition to the basses and parts and knives, I have amassed over 5,000 albums, Lps and Cds.
When I die, what a mess my wife and/or children will have to deal with! I must do something now!
So, just like you, 2024 and '25, '26 and etc...........reduction!
Many of my basses are parts basses and the best way to sell them is parted out. What a job of listing, selling and shipping!!!!!!!!!
I wish I would have known better at the time when I bought this stuff.
