DP Custom Basses

Man, I'm glad to hear a good review of Dave's work. I had a DP5 not too long ago but had to get rid of it because I wasn't pleased with the body shape (my fault) and weight (also my fault). On the other hand, the craftsmanship and construction was quite good and the sound was hot and heavy.

I try to pick the woods first by tonal characteristics and 2nd by looks. Fretless, so I am thinking warmer type of sound. I will sit down and research it some more.

Dave's waiting time is not bad if you get in while he has some slots open. I paid deposit the end of July and got the bass in April.
I have read of other luthiers where the wait is two years or more.

Yes it is Coco Bolo. I think he picked a fine piece and it bookmatched beautifully.

I have a 7 string on order from DP. Cherry wood with a bubinga top. Passive electronics with Bart singles. I may add active elect. myself when I get it.
DP said 5 months build-up time and that's ok.
I will update with a pic after I receive it.

nice looking! headstock's looks big though.

That's one of the things I really like about it. A large headstock typically means much less likelihood of dead spots on the board, more resonance, more sustain.

Even with that headstock the bass does not neck dive. Still lovin my bass after all these years. Still nothing negative to report.I'm back in Virginia Beach now so if there are any bass players who would like to check it out let me know.
