how much did you pay for that beautiful SOB



and how much did you specify waht you wanted? did you give him every littel number and thickness? that more i talk about these basses the more i want one :crying:

That one's not bad. The only thing I might change is the shape at the bottom, so the two halves don't look so divorced from each other. And I'd bring the treble-side horn out further from the centerline.

Enjoy the bass.

I like his new logo.

An overwhelming abundance of amateur construction incompetencies from any builder who markets themselves as a "professional custom luthier" is flat-out unacceptable and should not be tolerated by anyone.

Just remember that the majority of the issues customers had problems with were construction issues-mostly in the neck/fingerboard department, and control cavity/pickup route issues- those aren't issues that have anything to do with the customer.

I paid $1,350 by the time I put in all my last minute changes and shipping. Make sure you pay the extra for the 'hard' case; I took the included gig bag and the animals from UPS must have DROPPED IT right on the bottom strap lugs and bent it. I sent it back to Dave and fixed it right away. I also asked him to buff and wax the finish. It was 'squeaky' against the skin and I wanted it to be 'smooth sliding'.

The actual shape was a mod from his std 'scroll' body - I wanted a more symmetrical 'rounded' bottom. It came out close enough to what I wanted so I'm happy.

The big question: Would I do it again? Probably. Would I be willing to wait 15 months? I don't know. That was a long wait.

If it's a bass you're happy with (and, apparently, you are), then that's a very good price indeed.

It's a great looking bass, that's for sure. I'm still a bit divided on the looks of single cuts - some I like, some not so. But your's is a definite winner.
