Dr. Bass 1580 vs. AccuGroove Tri115L

I have an AccuGroove Tri210L that I'm very happy with. For some reason, the G.A.S demons had me looking at AccuGroove's website yesterday drooling over a Tri115L. The get high praise here.

I looked at the Dr. Bass site and found the 1580 for quite a bit less $$ than the Tri115L.

Has anyone ever tried them side by side and can offer comments on how similar/different they are?

Since there are only two or three BL1580s out there in the field right now (including mine), there are probably going to be very few direct comparisons. I'd be happy to share my thoughts on the two cabinets but I'll say right up front that I'm named on the Dr. Bass website as helping develop the BL1580 so I'm a little biased towards their products.

In a few months, when the next several batches of the BL1580s are out there, you may get a better response.

Not sure how much help this will be as I've never heard or played, or even seen (in person), an Accugroove cab.

I really like my 1580. It's loud, clear, and full all at the same time. Looks good and has that cool, tough as nails, coating. I bought the 1580 and then ordered a 1260 to go on top of it.
I love 15's, but in the past one 15 has not been quite enough and two 15's is just waaaayyy too much. I was expecting this 1580 to be the same as my other 15's: Not quite enough. Thus the ordering of the 1260 to add to the 1580. But so far (about half a dozen gigs) the 1580 has been more than loud enough on its' own.

I really don't have anything bad to say about it. But, even though I pride myself on knowing what I like right off the bat (the 1580 was a "like"), it does take me a while to get used to a piece of equipment and fine tune it.

My 2 cents.

Hey guys,

I've been happily playing through a Dr. Bass 2260 for awhile now, and I'm thinking about buying a 1580 to pair it - not so much to increase volume, but to make it easier to hear myself clearly by stacking my 2260 on top of another cab, and to avoid pushing my 2260 quite so hard on loud gigs.

Can either of you comment on the sound of the new 1580 relative to the 2260?

Hey guys, Chuck here. It's really good to see an interest in the 1580. I described the 1580 as having the sound that a single 15 and a 2x10 cabinet in one box. Using the 1580 with any othe DR. BASS cab adds that "something extra" that we all are looking for.
I tested out Matt's rig before we shipped it. Sitting dirrectly in from of the stack, I could hear the note fundementals come across each driver as I played a chromatic scale from the low B. Try it Matt and see for yourself!!!! With the 2260(now the 2460) on top of a 1580, WOW!!! The 15 putting across the low end, the two 12's hitting the low mids, the 6.5 and 8 taking care of the high mids, and the tweeters adding their sweetness; sounds like it would just KILL!!!!

Hey Chuck!
I've been giving the 1260/1580 combo a workout and I'm really loving it. Each cab is very full, even and punchy on thier own, but together they're a force of nature!
I honestly can't see me using a bigger rig ever. I've barely been able to open up the volume on my amp (Markbass SD800) above about "10 o'clock" before I start feeling like I'm hurting myself and others!

I wonder what a 1280 would sound like?

The extra cab volume in the 1580 has got to add more lows to the overall sound. The cu vol of the 1580 is prolly actually what Eminence recommends.

Hey Chuck.
can the 1580 handle a 6 string detuned to low b-flat at high volumes without farting out? Also, what would pair up well with the 1580 for such tuneing? Please feel free to PM me with recomendations. I'm in desperate need of a rig that won't fart out when pushed.

Hey Doug,

Strange you should ask that. At Bass Player Live, we had a gentleman play my 7 string through it. He tuned the B down to an F#. No problem. He was amazed. Check our web site under the what's new tab, you'll see a picture of our booth with the 2460/1580 stack.
I played in a band that tuned down a half step and my two 2x10's and two 1x15's handled the Bb.
Something in the works; 1x15 sub. Still working out the bugs.

If I remember correctly, the CS series has a little different design (bottom slot port, different tweeter, probably a different crossover system, etc.) and a little smaller internal volume.

I'd be after the 2x12!!
