Dr Bass BL 212 600 Watt 2 Ohms

Hi all. I recently bought a used Dr Bass BL 212 600 Watt 2 Ohm cab. Sounds great with my AI Clarus SL amp + Fishman Pro-EQ Platinum. But, there is knob on the back of the cab and I’m not sure what it controls. Maybe balance between Tweeter & Woofers? I hear no change between 7 o’clock and 5 o’clock. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

It is the tweeter level control. Is the tweeter actually working? Or it's also possible that it's working, but the signal from your bass doesn't contain very much audible information up in the frequency range served by the tweeter. (Probably above 5KHz.) One way to check this is to feed a more full-range signal through your amp, like from your phone or other audio source. Regular old recorded music works well, or you can download frequency-specific tones or sweeps from the InterWebs.

Edit: I'd put my money on the tweeter being non- functional, i.e., NFG.

Ahh, thanks. Not sure if the tweeter is working and/or whether it’s a lack of audible information from my bass. I’ll check, as you suggest, but running some recorded music through it. Thanks!!

It's worth trying to figure it out, but realistically, that tweeter won't really contribute anything constructive to the overall sound of the cab. (IMHO, of course. ) In any case, it looks to be a basic piezo driver -- they're cheap and easily sourced if you do need/want to replace it. I wouldn't bother.

So this is a 2 ohm cabinet that is marked 4 ohms??? If this is really true, please re-mark your cabinet so that down the road when it’s forgotten, someone doesn’t damage their amp if the amp is rated for a 4 ohm minimum load.

Fix your SpeakOn cable before it gets pulled out of the plug and damages your amp.

This is an example of why some amp designers put so much effort into their protection circuits.

Well, the tweeter is working. I followed your suggestion and ran some recorded music through it. I guess my bass is not delivering audible information to the tweeter. Doesn’t really matter. This cab sounds great. Thanks again!

I'm with AH here. That cab says 600W, 4Ohms. Am I missing something?

I stand corrected. Doesn't much matter though... at least not to me. But thanks for the correction.

I was wondering why in the world someone would make a 2-driver, 2Ω cab -- apparently I'm not any more observant the OP. It seems likely it would be 4Ω as marked. And yes, for goodness sake, re-terminate that funky cable so the strain relief on the Speakon captures the jacket of the cable.

I used one of these for a few years. I kept the tweeter turned off on mine. Great sounding cab for sure.

On your speaker cable you may be able to work the outer jacket back towards the connector. Hold the cable tight a few feet back from the Speakon with one hand and work
the jacket towards the connector with the other.

Loosen up the connector gray grip it unscrews from the blue body there is a three fingered grip chuck inside that tightens down on the cable jacket to hold it in place.
Check the screws while it's open.

yep, already fixed it.

Just replaced the 1/4" plugs on my PA speaker cables with Neutrik Speakons. Also repaired an old mic cable with Neutrik XLRs. I'll still use Switchcraft phono plugs on instrument cables for old time sake, but Neutrik Speakons and XLRs are sweet
