(Dr Bass/Marc Serio)-cab builder accepted >$10k in payments, never delivered gear

Wow, so I wonder if any thing re: the cabs will be brought up. I thought there was a civil suit or something. What a mess I purchased a Dr.Bass off this board snd was given the history about his work ethics. The cab I have is probably the best I've used. And to me compact compaired to all my old SUNN equip. He could have done well for himself minus the behavior.

I have an older Dr. Bass 210 cab that I picked up in a trade more than a year ago... Had I known then what I know now, I would have avoided it. But honestly, it does sound good. I guess I can kiss any resale value goodbye, eh?

Why, they are bad ass cabs, I may have purchased yours for all I know. He's a poopy business man, but the quality of the beginning products seemed to have been outstanding. I think the one I bought only saved me $100.00 and I am so happy I made the purchase....

I have owned three cabs of his, all were quite nice but I couldn't, in good conscience, keep them after the last time I had to deal with getting one delivered from him.

Jeff's mid-loaded Dr. Bass 2x12 was my first TB purchase when I started playing electric again, back in 2010. I didn't know about all the Dr. Bass drama at the time, but it's a good cab, and, IMO, out-performs the usual Ampeg, GK and Markbass stuff. I wouldn't buy a cab from Mr. Serio new unless a) I could be certain I'd actually receive it, and b) he did something concrete to make right with all the people who paid for cabs from him and got screwed earlier. Even so, there are a lot of honest builders designing and making cabs these days that are as good or better and, were I to commission a new one, I'd rather send my business their way.

I don't see anything wrong with buying a used cab if it fits the bill for you -- at least, I can't see how it's hurting anyone, and the used ones seem to be a good value -- but I can understand how a bad experience with a seller/maker could put a bad taste in your mouth, no matter how good the product is, and taint the experience of playing with it.

Buying one (or more) used is fine, in my mind, after all, they are well conceived and built cabinets ; it's having to deal with Marcass Serio that was/is the problem for buyers of new product. :banghead:

I feel for you guys who have money invested, but, just as with what's his name, Darrin Huff, or something like that, consider it as lost and probably should just move on at this point. Blood from a turnip and all that.

It definitely looks like he's trying to start up again, judging from the current site...he's left Florida for S. Carolina; the web page is copyrighted 2015; some of the cabs are now limited to 4 or 8 ohms which I don't remember from earlier times.

I'd say that the sticky is still relevant.
