DR Dragon Skin!!!

The only tone change Ive noticed k3 coating gives is little more brightness and harmonics are not as easy to do. Compared to the sunbeams which are what neons are said to be but just with coating added. Thats the only sound diff to me. The neons and sunbeams have same low bass articulation level which imo is better then most strings included my prev fave strings. So yeah the coating does give small tone diff to me. Little brighter and touch harmonics are not as easy to do as the on the uncoated version (sunbeams).

They are available as singles!! But I guess not all DR resellers want to bother with singles though :(

I guess since there is some "cushioning" between the string and the fingerboard it may help slow the amount of wear over time. But keep in mind, even if you use flatwounds on a fretless fingerboard you will eventually get some form of wear.

Thanks. Yeah, my fretboard has held up well under grounds and even pressurewounds. I wondered if coated was the next step. :D

Correct:

Black Beauties / Cool Blues / Red Devils / NEON strings are all Round Core with Nickel Plated Steel wrapping and K3 Coated. There is no difference between them all unless you find a set of older BB / CB / RD which are Non-K3... (think Coated SunBeams)

Dragon Skin are K3 Coated Stainless Steel roundwounds over a Round Core (Think Hi-Beams)

Really? I just got a set of neons and it said they used the new K3 coating on them. I can dig around the trash bin if you wanna see a pic

Btw, not incredibly impressed. The coating chews up my fingers (even through extremely thick callous). They sound okay, but not great. Not much mid range, harmonics are tough. Buut they have a kind of cool thumpiness and a good slap tone

Do all DR strings basically sound like this? If they do it might be my last set...

I should have been more clear... I updated my post...

OLDER sets of Black Beauties / Cool Blues / Re Deviles / Silver Stars were NOT K3 coated, they were changed in the middle of last year to K3.

All NEON's have always been K3 coated strings.
