DR strings. Hex core or no?

Which would be better for a Jazz Bass when I want Jaco's sound like it was on '' Come on, come over '' and kind of a Geddy Lee growl? Also, would nickel or stainless steel be better? Please! Thank you.

for "come on come over" I'd go with the Sunbeams - round core nickels with a well rounded tone.

for a geddy lee tone I'd personally go with lo riders stainless steel (hex core).

Jaco used Rotosound Swing Bass, so obviously, stainless steel is must. In my personal experience, I've liked the hex-core Lo-Riders, because they hold their own when you drop to D or use alternate tunings, plus the feel is perfect for me. The Hi-Beams didn't have enough tension, in my opinion. Personally, the core doesn't affect the sound. It's more a preference thing.

To emulate Jaco, a Jazz bass with the mids boosted around 1K, roll off the neck PUP to varying degrees, stainless rounds (try several to see which ones work for YOU), and practice your butt off while listening to Jerry Jemmott, Charles Mingus, Jimmy Blanton, and Jim Fielder.
