DR Sunbeams looking a little uneven on the surface

Have my 1st set on Sunbeams on my Sire V5R for 2 days now and I really love them. Wanted to try some roundcores but roundwound. They are bright yet warm enough, with a solid bottom to get that piano-like tone I love on my JB. They are not as low-tension as I had expected after reading some reviews here, but they ar certainly not stiff.
I have noticed that their surface looks not perfectly even agains the light, unlike all other different strings I have seen until now. Tried to capture it in a snapshot in dim conditions... you may see what I mean in the out of focus area at the bottom right corner.
Bothers me not the least but makes me curious: has this something to do with DR's pronounced "handmade" claim? Almost all string manufacturers claim that their stings are proudly handmade in /*whatever location*/, but maybe there are different techiques involved. What do you think?

Hey, I just got my 1st set of sunbeams ever also. I think what you are looking at is how the light comes off them, mine look similar. They are more shiny than any nickel I had used in the past. They sound great and are not quite the noodle I have heard them described as.

If you like the way they sound and you like the way they feel I think there isn’t a problem.

I don’t know about other string manufacturers but DR legitimately makes their strings by hand. Of course, there’s machinery involved but it really is a bunch of humans sitting on chairs and holding wires as they’re wrapped around the cores. That’s all I can say about this, really. Well, that and the fact that I personally really like them (I use LoRiders on one of my basses exclusively).

About a year ago, I had a set of Hi-Beams in which the A string had a rough matte finish, while all others were smooth and shiny, like usual. It had darker tone too, but the difference wasn't large enough to be an issue in a band mix so I didn't do anything about it. (DR's customer service is great, so they probably would have sent me a new string.) I was surprised, because DR normally has great QC. I've been using primarily DR strings for over a decade, and this is the only issue I've seen.

So yeah, this can happen.

Usually I see this with D'Addario strings - being wound on a hex core, they can sometimes look a little lumpy when initially installed. After a few weeks that visual effect smooth out. Same with Sunbeams, after a week or so of being tuned up to pitch that weird lumpy visual effect should begin to go away.
