DR Sunbeams

I have them on my fretless Corvette. That thing came alive! I had DR Flats on it before and they were great (felt like butter too) but I needed more punch for my band. Now I can slap my fretless if I need to and it sounds articulate and not muddy.

They literally glitter when they come out of the envelope...

Supple, ease of play, bright, clear and thumpy all at the same time. Round core is where its at for strings (but I'm no pro). I use DR's flats on the Pbass (feel and sound great). Sunbeams were on Jazz (copy), its for sale, so they're going on the ATK750KA when it arrives. On the Jazz they would easily be string of choice for it: such great playability and sound.

Will compare them with EBall Slinkys and Roto's 66, and a set of DR's Black Beauties (onto the Ric).

DR Sunbeams are my roundwound of choice. I replaced the EB Slinkys on my Stingray with DR Sunbeams about 3 years ago. Much fuller, richer sound, IMO. And they retain enough of "that roundwound sound" to take advantage of that characteristic Stingray treble component. Oh yeah, they stay fresh for months, too. All of the above IME, of course.

Another fanboy here!

Have them on my '62 Jazz RI. Not quite the usual roundwound zing, and not the dull thump of a flat. They sit JUST RIGHT for me. They have easy playability (flexible), and are very punchy. I posted this before, but here is a reference that Ed Friedland did of the entire DR line (well at the time anyway), complete with clips and opinions. Very useful IMO. Just scroll down the page a bit.

I can chime in on the Hi-Beams vs Sunbeams. I have a set of each on my 6'rs (fretted & fretless). The High Beams have the characteristic brightness of stainless strings, almost a "metallic" sound, if you will (but not in a bad way). The Sunbeams have a warmer, more rounded tone to my ear - more even across the spectrum. Similarly on my 4's I have Fat beams and Sunbeams and have the same conclusion, though I do like the Fat Beams a lot, too.

I have decided all future sets of strings I buy will be Sunbeams, I like them that much.
