Double Bass Dragonetti's Bass

I never said that I played and saw Dragonetti's basses, I said the guy at the concert hall told me they were Da Salo and Maginni
Now probably for the first time on the web it will be possible to see

the first Dragonetti's Bass, the one that we can find in St.Mark Church in Venice (Italy), is a Gasparo da Salò.

The Giant bass.
It's another personal photo I took in London. It's another Gasparo da Salò. It's enormous.
Until now it hasn't been published. I wait for some day, and then I'll insert it on my Italian Forum Contrabbasso Italiano.
I would like all bass community have got it.

Probably this link is only in Italian. But very beautiful photos of the other Dragonetti's bass (Gasparo da Salò 1690).
Well, Maestro Sergio Scaramelli, italian liuther.
In the photos he'is restoring the other Gasparo da Salò,
the one that now we can see and also played in St.Mark Church in Venice. Thanks to maestro Scaramelli who has changed the ancient gut strings with new ones. So now it's possible to play it.

Well actually, we have seen all of these photos in the past on the net and at least in one or two books.
I know someone who has played the Dragonetti d'Salo Bass briefly. I also have a book by Stefano Pio with pictures of the d'Salo after its restoration by Scaramelli. My Martini has his restoration label in it from 1999 as well. Hopefully, Scaramelli did a better job on the d'Salo than he did on my Martini internally. The Martini is currently in restoration and we are re-doing much of his 'hurried' work.
On the 'Giant', it has never been referred to as a 'd'Salo, just a big Italian Bass that Dragonetti owned.
One time around 1977 while living and playing/working in New York, I accompanied a fellow Bassist to Philadelphia to an older gentleman's house that had the basement full of Double Basses shopping for an Italian orchestral Bass. I can't recall the mans name but one of the Basses was touching the ceiling. It was a huge Italian Basses over 7 feet tall. The shoulders almost reaching my neck and I am 6ft tall.
