Dream Alembics

I used to think I wanted a triple-omega, but then I played a Bruce Becvar sitting down and it nearly left a scar on my thigh!

I have two dream Alembics:

One is a 34" scale 8-string: Series II large body w/ single omega cut, Series I electronics, ebony stringers, red LEDs, & frankly I don't care what woods because everything Alembic does is gorgeous.

The other is a 32" scale 4-string: Series I small body, Series II electronics *but* w/ every pot or switch replaced by a digital encoder, & a microprocessor to allow PRESETS for all those knob/switch configurations. Ebony stringers, blue LEDs, again, any freakin' kind of wood is fine.

Both get additional elbow- and tummy-cuts.

The Rio bass has Series II electronics. Same as the 5 string that's in the middle of the picture Iposted earlier in this thread. Not as scary as it looks. It could easily look a lot less formidable if Alembic used stacked knobs.

There are typically 8 knobs on a Series II bass. Goes like this....

BASS PICKUP
  • Volume
  • Q filter
  • Q selector

TREBLE PICKUP
  • Volume
  • Q filter
  • Q selector

OTHER KNOBS
  • Master Volume
  • Pickup Selector (Standby / Bass PU / Both / Treble PU)

Typically, I adjust my Q filter settings for each pickup, then set the relative volume for each pickup AND DON'T TOUCH THEM AGAIN!!! I control the overall volume with the Master Volume. That way I can dial up and down without screwing up my tone setting.

Your question is not at all irrelevant. It is a hum cancellor. Alembic Series I and Series II pickups are soapbars, but they are not humbuckers. The middle "dummy" pickup is the humcancellor.

There are pots accessible in the back control plate to adjust the sensitivity of it if required. You can see them best on the back of my Series I. The one with the brass backplates. On the right, you can see four little holes lined up. Two of them are for humcancellor adjustment.
