Dream instrument, or….?

I know it’s been asked several times before whether anyone plays instruments other than bass and I know a lot of us do. But I want to ask you all here whether there is an instrument that you *wish* you could play but haven’t yet got around to getting started on.

For me, it’s the Organ. And I mean the full thing, the Real McCoy, with three registers, pipes, foot pedals, hand sliders and all. Medieval cathedral-style, complete with the bats in the belfry. I’ve always loved this sound - it literally gives me shivers down my spine when I hear it in real life.

So. How about you? If there’s nothing for you that fits this bill, maybe you can just suggest a good thread title for me?

I have many, but yeah, organ is close to the top of ones I'd love to learn. I even have a full Hammond B3 setup (technically, the A3 Heritage System) sitting in storage awaiting renovations to finish downstairs...

I'd love to play harmonica well. Great instrument, easily portable, nearly every band can use a player, and I think playing it is cool. I'm 73 and guys much older than I play harmonica.

I spent a lot of time playing the harmonica during my rambling travels in my late teens and early twenties. Never got *really* good at it though. It’s one of those instruments that is super easy to learn the basics of but takes a lifetime to become proficient at.

This is going to sound really weird considering we're on TalkBass, but...bass!

I'm actually a keyboardist who took up synth (and drum machine) in order to play and record all the parts of the music I was composing. Having grown up on '70s soul/R&B/funk, I have a special affinity for bass, so to answer the OP's question - I wish I could play bass guitar!

Coming in a close second: I'll love to be able to play sax, especially like Maceo Parker.

I used to work at a church as a young teen. Evenings I would lock it up. Most nights I would play the organ for a few minutes (self taught). Man, the sound bouncing off a big empty building with stone floors...

My wife & I just picked up a keyboard last weekend at GC, so hopefully I'll/she'll get started real soon. Can anyone suggest a good online resource for learning piano for a couple of rank beginners? We're hoping it lights a fire under at least one of the kids, too!

Oddly enough - Vibraphone. Just like the sound of the mallets ringing off the metal (which is why steel drum is my second choice).

Melodics is a good tool. Helped my son a lot

Oddly enough - Vibraphone. Just like the sound of the mallets ringing off the metal (which is why steel drum is my second choice).

I was *this close* to buying a vibraphone a couple of years ago. Someone was having a hard time paying rent or something and was basically having a fire sale. My wife talked me out of it and I’ve never forgiven her for that
