See....even the pros make mistakes!! :)

I do it all the time. Often in the last set at around 1am after being at work all day and up half the previous night with a 2yo that won't sleep!

Guitarist cracks it at me, but IMO, if I ain't fluffing the same part every time then what's the big deal every now and then. Like others have said, it's mainly the band that notices.

Having said that, last week I played like a dog!! Hopefully I'll be better tonight!

playing a song in church. we get to a soft part in the song, and I am playing up high on the fretboard around the D and A octaves all by myself (was still learning the notes up there) . . . and I hit a C# instead of a C.


That was really bad. I stopped playing until the next measure.

Now I would just slide it up and then pull off to a C.

You live, you learn.


On another note, my dad (the guitarist) can't play any B of F# chord variations (and he might actually hit a C# every once in awhile). I always have to wait when those chords come up to figure out what chord he is actually going to play. lol

Indeed. First dance at a wedding where guitarist is best man. Forgot there is 2 verse before chorus. Starts playing chorus where upon both me and guitarist 2 chord the verse. He realised after 1 bar.

done this, on this song. I forgot that we had changed the key. Slid up from the 12 fret to a semi tone to low. A kick in the groin would have been less painful. :eek:

This has to had happen to a bunch of musicions! I was doing my first show with a new band about 5 years ago. We were opening with ZZ Top tush. I did not know it but I had stepped on my tuner before we started. When it was time for me to come in I had nothing, so I immediatly turned the tuner off as fast as I could. Afterwards, the Guitar player said that a guitarist in another band he was in did the same thing but failed to realize his tuner was on!

Nothing wrong with tossing a few clams out on stage. We aren't good at hiding it when it happens.....we all laugh.

I remember watching Alice in Chains play Them Bones many years ago and someone was a half step off every chorus. Watching them look at one another the whole time was priceless. Only the musicians in the audience stopped moshing to look up in disbelief.

I was playing for my family because they wanted to hear what new things I was learning...........I played a completely improvised version of anesthesia (pulling teeth) that my bass teacher wouldn't have even recognized I had so many long notes just to give myself some time to remember the next part. worst brainfart of my life

I can post in this thread now!!

When playing "killing in the name of" by RATM, I completely spaced on the bass solo in the intro. Luckily one of the mics was feeding back insanely, so we blamed it on technical difficulties and started the song over again (and I got it the 2nd time!!!!)

When subbing once many years ago, the band decided tochange the song order for the set, picked another tune and began to count in but I couldn't hear what they picked and had no more time to ask.
So on 4, I took a wild guess and lobbed a big G out there to start.
Unfortunately the song began with an A.

The only time I had anything like that happen was when I was filing in with my old band. There was a part in the song where there was a bass solo. The problem was that they had changed the arrangement and didn't tell me. All of a sudden everyone esle stopped playing. I didn't know what they were doing so I stopped also. They three of them just stared at me as if to say, why aren't you playing? After the set, the guitarist apologized and said that he forgot to tell me about the change.

We were doing a run of Evil Dead: the Musical, and I was situated right behind the pianist/MD. During a reprise at the end of the first act, I was watching the actors and forgot to come in at the top (which is only piano and bass). She looked over after a couple of minutes and said quietly (because we were onstage), "Would you like to play this song?" I finally turned my brain back on and played it.

Every night after that, she officially invited me to play before the song.
