DRs

I just switched to nickle Lowriders a week ago.The feel and and sound is amazing, By far the best string i have ever played on. Im gonna keep a spare set with me at all times and probally keep one of my basses strung with Nickle lowriders always. Anyways thats my two cents

I used the LoRiders once and liked them very much. Both the sound and the way they feel, very gritty. I also remember they sounded pretty fresh for at least a month and still had decent tone for another month or two. I then moved to Elixir's Nanowebs for a year (They last long if you don't use a pick :p) and when I broke my E string two days ago, I bought a set of SS Hi-Beams. They sound very very bright and feel just as good as I remember the LoRiders.

I just hope the Hi-Beams will last because where I live they go for $45...

I've put a 6 string set of DR Hi-beams on my Ibanez today and I don't like the sound too much. Thinner sound than the Elixir and the high C seems permanently "chorused" so as if you'd put a chorus effect exclusively on the high C :scowl:
I had to reajust the action although the string gauge is the same as before (besides the high C which is 30 instead of 32) because the bass did not stop snarling on the 1st fret. But no taper wound etc. Seems to be more or less the same thickness at the bridge but obviousely not maybe it's due to the "roundcore". Anyway, they will not stay for long. Unfortunately I bought 3 sets because the store didn't have other 6 string sets in stock :rollno:

You're definitely going to notice a big difference. You're going from a coated nickel string (and probably worn/dead) to an uncoated stainless steel string with less tension. There's a day/night difference.

Adjust your action accordingly, re EQ everything, and try again.

Yeah, they were worn (that's what Elixirs are for :D ). Will do so, but have to set my action ridiculously high compared to the former string set :rollno: And why does it still happen that the high C sounds like there's a chorus effect on it. If that's meant to be standard, they will go into trash tomorrow cause this really sucks....

You need to adjust your trussrod because the DR's are less tension than the Elixers you took off.

The 'chorusy' sound could be a problem with your nut (too wide, not wide enough, too low?) or a problem with your bridge (bad/loose saddle) or your pickups might not align with the C string properly. Basically...it's not the string.

Yeah, already saw the trussrod coming... The saddle is quite ok and the string seems to fit ok in the nut. But as I said, its gauge is less thicker (.30 compared to .32 before). Anyway, will look out for the Elixirs because the suited me very well. I just had to get some string and stranded with DR's which are great strings for sure, but they don't suit me very well and I don't like to adjust the whole bass. Just hoping to grab on a couple of Elixirs soon again.
Thx anyway for your help (guess I'm the only one who has a "chorused" C string :p )

I've been into DR's for 7 or 8 years. I used to rock Blue Steels because after they broke in, they got a certain "glow" that lasted for a few weeks... then they fell over dead. Got a set of Low Riders for my Carvin BB75 to replace the dead Blue Steels I had, and was smitten. The sound is tight and focused, low B is perfect, and I don't seem to notice any fade for months and months... until I break one and have to re-string. And then I fall in love all over again. Tried the Hi-Beams once, but they didn't stick. But the Low-Riders... You would have to do some serious hypnosis or reinvent the wheel to pull me away.

String is probably twisted. Try restringing it.
