DRs

Saint, the Hi-Beams are the smoothest stainless steel roundwound I've tried out of the following:

The flexibility of Hi Beams is pretty awesome too. Try them!

I fully agree!
Great strings. I have them on my Fender 51 P Re-issue.
One of the very best feeling Round Wounds I have used. I have used some that felt like a rasp file. These are compressed wound and have a great tone.

I just got back from the local music shop and I picked up a set of DR Zebras for my acoustic six string. WOW! These are fantastic strings. I went back later and also bought a set of Sunbeams and a set of Hi Beams. I love this company! They make the absolute best strings ever, for bass AND guitar. I will never buy another brand. This company is the $h!t!

Yep, I am finding that out also. I use DR Pure Blues Nickels on my guitar. Very consistant smooth, chimey tone.
I use DR High Beams on my bass. So far I really like them alot.
They also are consistant string to string, nice tension, feel good for a Round Wound (due to compression) and sound awesome!

I'm thinking of trying these Lo-Riders on my DJ 5 in the nickel wound. All these folks pluggin DR's they must be pretty good.
Anyone else use the nickle, and does anyone know if they come in a lite gauge nickel? I found these, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...20013556205&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1
That's the only place I could find the 5 string set in nickel. I know they should be quieter, but do they sound as nice as the SS? tell ya what, the SS's that Lakland puts on the DJ's are like loud loose rubber bands. Real nice tone, Ballsey, but noisey as hell.....one other thing, Mymusicstuff on ebay ships in 2 days tops, every time for me. A good ebayer ;)

I personally prefer SS to Nickel in every single case, especially for the Lo-Riders.

And yes, mymusicstuff is amazing - I live in Jersey and I got my strings within 2-3 days of them receiving my money order.

i recently switched from 45-105 HIbeams to 40-100 Fatbeams on my 4-string G&L. all the marketing is true. better mids, tighter bootom. excellent balance, even a really bright E. and the lighter gauge plays so well. still nowhere near flabby. i am closer to a Miller slap sound than ever before with these, while the fingerstlye punch doesn't suffer the least bit. i used to think the Hibeams were the final word in bass strings. can't be, Fatbeams are.

I tried a set of DRs for a 6-string; I HATED them. The C and G string snapped the day I installed them, and the B-string's end wouldn't fit in my bridge (had to leave old string on). I will never use DRs again. I've been using GHS Boomers for last few years, and they are Great!

so you basically blame DR for your playing style and the construcion of your bridge. :scowl:

I too prefered the Fat Beams over the High Beams, until I tried the ss Low-Riders. I think they fit my main bass (35", 5 string) perfectly. To be sure tough, I'll have to try the fat beams one more time.

I agree that the fat beams have an exceptionnal midrange, but I prefer the lows of the Low-Riders.

Question for you fat beam lovers... what style & type of music do you play?

I'm rather fond of all the DR's I've tried, & am completely sold on the brand. I use Hi Beams on my lakland & my jazz... but on my MTD Beast, I'm using Black Beauties.

I recently put a set of the Marcus Miller signature strings on my Geddy; they died within days! Regular bedroom practice, no gigging, nothing. The box they came in wasn't plastic wrapped, so I dunno if that contributed to the outcome. Very dissapointed, maybe I got a "lemon"; who knows. Anyways, I just emailed DR about the whole thing, we'll see what happens.
