DRs

i love my dr hi-beams smoothest steel ever last the longest and the most musical and i also like the snake skins by conklin they both have long life and piano like tone, the fat beams are even better then the hi-beams they literaly have a fatter sound and last alot longer to but i'm a 6-string player and the fat's only come in 4-5 string sets :bawl: but i use dr hi-beams and conklin snake skins no matter what lovem to death peace from the mexican

I have been using D'addario's on my Takemine acoustic bass for the last two years. Been trying to find DR's ever since I got it. There are no music stores in my area that sale DR's. I just ordered a set of Lo Rider Nickels for it. I also bought a new bass LTD C-304 off of ebay along with a new set DR Bootzillas. I'm stuck off-shore on a drilling rig. so I haven't gotten the chance to string up my old bass, much less play my new one. I'm freakin' out man. I need to play bad. I use to play 6 strng non-bass guitars. Bass is like crack. I NEED THAT $H^T.

I just threw on that set of Lo-Rider Nick's great sound on my Take'. I love that bass now. They came right out of tha pack with semi-bright but more mellow sound than any string I've ever used. I'm looking forward to getting fully broken in, I want them to mellow just a bit more. I think they could have a little more of the low-up right-slap feel & soujnd that I was hunting.
PS: I haven't gotten the Bootzillas yet will post on them, when they get here.

I just got back from the local music shop and I picked up a set of DR Zebras for my acoustic six string. WOW! These are fantastic strings. I went back later and also bought a set of Sunbeams and a set of Hi Beams. I love this company! They make the absolute best strings ever, for bass AND guitar. I will never buy another brand. This company is the $h!t!

DR is probably my favorite string ever. I've got DR Low-riders steels on my four, and ah it's a beutiful thing. i think i'm going to try nickles once this set breaks, but man those strings are made to withstand bomb hits...

got to custom order though. no one around me sells them out of the store, so i got to go to the local internet string shop that orders them straight from the source for me. good price too.
try [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

they've got every single string ever created by man, and every type of DR imaginable.

I need bright agressive tone.. 'dirty' if you know what I mean..
I've tried Hi-beams but they're to floppy for me, I like Everly B52, though I can't buy them anywhere now (I live in Poland).
Tried Roto SoloBass - nice, but dead fast

I like the sound of nickel-plated strings but after a week I can't 'cut thru the mix' - sound began to be mellow when this 'shiny' thing pasts away.

What should I try?

Well, Lo-Riders, ProSteels or Blue Steels would be my suggestions. Not shure I know what you mean by 'dirty' but I think my Blue Steels gave me something ekstra than just steel string zing. You might call it dirty, I call it warmth. But in some peoples opinion they die fast. For me they settle in. (and the alcohol-soaking trick renders the string-death redundant anyway)

thx for advice

if you ever used B52 you would know what is 'dirty' sound ;)
a lot of harmonics - with high response in mids..

Blue Steels? What do you mean - die fast, a week? two? every string is dead in less than a month (and yes - I use some home-methods to regenrate them)

I've also heard that Roto Swing 66 are nice 'rock' strings

No, I've unfortunately never tried the B52s, but it's excactly because of the mids I love the Blue Steels. They're more complex than any other string I've tried. They loose their initial brightness in the first week, and stay useably bright for the next two or three. So if that's your idea of normal string lifespan, I don't think you'll find that these die any faster than other strings. I just don't want to recommend them without saying that some people think they die fast, and you might too. Actually in my unscientific grounded opinion I think that these strings has so strong mids, that they tend to subdue the high when these fade a bit after the first week. Some like it, others don't and think they'd died. The Rotos 66 are a little more twangy and hollow sounding. Not as fat and punchy as Blue Steels.

i use DR high-beams, my bass teacher uses low-riders.

frankly, i like the feel of the low-riders more. i really dig into my strings, so the stiffer feel of the low-riders really helps prevent my fingers flying all over the place.

my high-beams sound better than any other string that i have used, i just dont like the break rate. my low-B has an average lifespan of 6(?) months? thats really expensive.

it always breaks at the witness point (the bridge contact)

It depends on the bass. I use HB's or LR's on all my basses. I would say asside from high beams being slightly a little brighter they also have that muuahhh factor. It is a very smooth flat sounding string, if anything a little spike in the hi mids.

I would say Low Riders are a scouped sounding string..the low mids are more pronouned, in SS they are still crispy.

For example my Spectors get LR's because they are a mid rangey bass anyway, and the scouped sound and pronouned lowmids really make it sound deep, but yet still cuts in the mix.

My Ric gets HB's, I also like HB's on Fenders.

My Rick loves Sunbeams....sounds better than any other string I've tried...my bandmates were suprised that I finally settled on a string(tried lots of strings)

Tried SS Lo-Riders, but they came off in a day, and I thought my old, fret-dented Sunbeams sounded ten times better....and they're still bright...I think my hands are pretty neutral, though...

I've played lots of different brands of strings in 16-17 years...and DR's are my favorite.

I'm partial to the Hi-Beams although I've tried all of their different types except the Fat-Beam's and the Bootsy Sig strings.

Haven't played any other brand that lasted and kept it's tone as long as DR.

Only thing I don't like is they are a bit rough feeling, but that's to be expected with serious rounds like the Hi-Beams. (They still didn't feel as rough as Rotosounds and lasted about twice as long).

DR's = Good Stuff!!
