DRs

What's the difference in the sound between the LoRiders and the HiBeams? Anyone?

Andreas
The difference I find between the low rider SS and the hi beams which are SS is the hi beams are a little brighter sounding but to me the biggest difference is the feel. Low riders feel stiffer and the high beams are more flexible. I kind of like the low riders better because I can set my action lower with them and not get fret buzz.

I'm using Hi-Beams at the moment, after using Nickel Everlys, man these things take some getting used too! Love the brightness, but they have a harsher feel than the Everlys. Anything I can use to make em feel a bit smoother? Also what's a good string cleaner for SS?

GHS Fast Fret. I've been using it for years. Good stuff.

now which strings are better for a fat low-mid growl???

Hi-Beams or Lo-Riders ???

Trebble dosn´t mind me...just play with fingers.

...most strings starting realy to growl after a few gigs, when they are old, and the trebble is gone.

Any thoughts on DR strings. I just got some today but haven't put them on yet. See, I have never changed the strings myself out of fear that I will mess them up and have to buy more.

Great strings, way too expensive. Of course, when you're a teacher, milk is too expensive...water is too expensive...air is too expensive.

I imagine that may be due to the cores...Hi Beams have a round core, and Low Riders have a hex core.

What I'd like to know about is the Sunbeams, how do they compare to the Hi Beams and Low Riders? I'm into the idea of the lower tension of the round core and the warmer sound and softer feel of the nickel wrap. Is that how they compare?
BTW, I've never tried any DR strings, but just trying to see what I should try first. I'm into lower tension, softer feel, and warmer tone.

i think i should try some dr's next(im getting sick of the "ham change" on the elixirs, i have a geddy, Maple FB, so it shows...)... maby the lowriders, since i feel its possible to play faster to play on stiffer strings... how do they compare in sound and lifetime to elixirs?

Sun-Beams are great. They are very much like Hi-Beams in that that they produce a lot of "zing" when they are new, but mellow to a nice fat and warm punch after they've aged a bit. They use round cores so they are nice and flexible and they feel super smooth under the fingers. I put a set on a Martin ABG and really like them. I use Hi-Beams on my electric and I really like them too. I can't find enough great things to say about DR.

I've used the round core DR's (hi beams, sunbeams) and really like them. recently tried the sunbeams on my stingray and love the sound - less brittle. the hi beams were almost overkill but still liked the raw sound. they're good 'cause they last a long time and have a little less tension than other strings. I'm curious about the ss low riders, think i'll check 'em out next. DR's=great strings.

Thanks everybody here seriously...
Just bought a EB Sterling & have to record in Boston tommorow. On everybody's recommendation I picked up some DR Lowriders & they are fantastic. You guys really saved my butt!

Read the first page, felt like adding my experience. I tried probably 4 different types of strings and ended up on DR Hi-Beams Heavy set. I like high tension and these things are perfect for me. Just the right amount of roughness (EBs are too soft, for a comparison) and the tone stays the same the entire time minus just a bit of brightness after a few weeks. They die EXTREMELY gradually and after that "new string brightness" wears off the tone is still very nice for months.

I couldn't be happier. The only other strings I want to try are the various other DRs (Low-Riders, Fat Beams). No other brands for me.
