Drummer is responsible for tempo. If you can't follow the tempo, you don't need to be playing live music. Just my opinion!
As for hard hitting drummers...........drummers also control stage volume. If he's banging the snot out of the drums, it causes other musicians to turn up. A loud stage is unnecessary!
