Dry cracked fingers in the winter

Opened thread in time for Thanksgiving/Christmas and this year's winter season.

I have several cracks on each hand right now, several in joint areas that are taking a while to close up while at the same time there is callous type skin building up around each crack.

I've taken to using a medium nail file to gently take out all the rough skin. Be careful to do a little bit and check the area so you don't break through the skin. :atoz: I also gently smoothed all the skin on my hands to see if would help to play a bit more smoothly on the neck. I'll report in later.

I'll be checking out Aquaphor to see if it helps with the skin cracks.

Take care of your hands and have a safe winter season!:hyper:

41 degrees F this am. Used gloves to walk the dog. Gloves at all times outdoors at less than 45 F ...keeps joints and tendons warm and retains moisture. Then I applied my first slug of Shikai Borage Therapy (advanced formula) lotion. I'm sure other creams work well too but this borage stuff has been really great for me and disappears into the skin without residue. These two steps combined have helped me for many years now to aid with both skin and joint issues over the winter. Jeez, we're not really talking winter yet, are we? :jawdrop:

When i was doing mechanic work full time my hands and fingers stayed split open in the winter. Anything i put on my hands turned my strings black and killed them in just a few days so I just learned to live with it.
Mm

2020 hand care update:

My wife had This stuff around for years but we never used it. Came across it in storage and thought I'd give it a try.

So far this is the best I've used, especially since I've had really dry skin lately.

Smells good, not greasy and really puts a nice sheen on your hands that makes playing Very smooth and easy.

After I work it in for about 10-15 seconds I do a bit of Mr. Miyagi warm-hands technique to generate a bit of friction heat that makes everything very smooth.

I also work it into the cuticles and use a cuticle trimmer, nail file and nail clippers to remove dead/cracked skin.

I use it several times a day. It doesn't take much.
