A large amount of scientific study shows that we humans are happier and healthier when we set our official clock time to be as synchronized as possible with local solar time, and also our internal, biological clocks, which tend to follow solar time.
Whether or not there are any benefits to society to using DST for half the year, there is definitely a negative cost to our physical, mental, and emotional well being.
But even worse than switching back and forth twice a year, is adopting DSL permanently. We humans have evolved to become active when the sun comes up and to become more passive and relaxed when the sun goes down. Arranging our clocks so that we have less daylight in the morning and more daylight in the evening is not good for us.
