Dual P configuration Bass

I love the sound. It has more low end than a jazz and the the highs are not as sharp as on a jazz when both pups are on. When you roll off of the neck, you get the quack of a jazz but with a fuller sound. Very different than a jazz in every way.

I'd be careful when choosing positioning. The closer you get to the bridge, the less signal is generated because the strings move less over the pups. I have the exact same pups in both positions, so I have the bridge set as high as possible to even the sound. If you place directly against the bridge, you need to get a hotter pup set than the neck.

I just finished this bass. Except I plan on drilling for string-thru-body and installing ferrules and a Hipshot bridge, as soon as it arrives. The neck is from a MIJ Fender 70s P that I ordered new and just couldn’t fall in love with. This is the 2nd bass I’ve built using that neck. An active jazz didn’t bond with me either, so I ordered this body custom from Warmoth. This is a costly build! But, I know from having a Carlo (Carl Pedigo) dual P that I will love it! Dual Ps are THE bass for people who find J basses too thin, or standard P basses too one dimensional and/or bland, IMO.

Just finished routing and installing the bridge set tonight. I loaded it with Seymour Duncan SPB-1's in both positions. The sound is fat. Thicker than a Jazz with both on, very throaty. With just the bridge its like a fuller, rounder jazz. The neck is what you would expect, a pbass...still need to route a bit so I don't have to keep using a concentric volume. For those wondering, this is a parts bass that I painted and relic'd. Its not a Fender that I chopped up.

Very nice, it has a 60's look to it. I 'm busy making a 51 with two single coil.
