Dual SVT's through an 8x10 cab

I have significant hearing damage in my left ear from one SVT and one 8x10 cabinet. Do yourself a favor and have everybody turn down. Get a proper mix and rely on monitors and FOH. When a single cranked SVT visibly shakes your clothing, it is a pretty good sign that you are too loud...two would just be silly.

i've seen shows with 2 SVT 8x10 rigs. im pretty sure the soundguy only pretended to take the DI out..

You're stressing out your heads running them at 8 ohms at a ridiculous volume, and you're either going to blow a lot of tubes or you're going to toast your output transformer. All SVT tube heads are only meant to run at 4 or 2 ohms.

+1 SVT is only meant to run at 2 or 4 ohms. Two SVT's run at 8 ohms equals disaster.

No. I've been running my vr through 8 ohm mesa powerhouse for a year now, gigs and rehearsals, it's been used a lot, not to mention physical abuse in van, and there's no sign of tubes wearing out and transformers are fine as well - been checked by my tech. However, I found this combo to be less powerful than when put on 4 ohm cab (obviously) and sound isn't that good as well.

So I wouldn't say 2 SVTs in one 810 is wrong but I just don't get the point of doing so.

Just because it hasn't happened to you (yet) doesn't mean it can't (won't) happen. When people with a LOT of experience with the amp and the manufacturers themselves tell us not to do something, its probably best not to take the risk.

Good grief you southern types do not know much about Canada at all!!!!

It's naughty if you hang yourself here though I've not seen any BODY charged for the crime.

We're a big ass country with lots of wilderness areas with many carnivorous animals that like nothing more than juicy US meat. This is how we take care of non citizen bodies. Saves the country the cost of the funeral.

Novax, what make you think we'd let you into canada? Especially for such a purpose.

Immigration: "Mr Novax, is your visit business or pleasure?".
Novax: "I've come to hang myself!".
Immigration: "Hang on a minute."
Immigration 20 minutes later: "Mr Novax, I'm sorry to have kept you hanging about for so long... Mr Novax? ... Mr Novax??????" "Call the zoo.... more feed has arrived!"

Paul

Just figured death penalty for hanging yourself would be government logic. As a federal employee I have years of experience with the mindset.

That reality show guy Ryan Jenkins kills his hotty girlfriend, removes her teeth
and fingertips, stuffs her in a suitcase then flees to bc canada and hangs himself.
Oh and if you basspeople would quit talkbassing.com about SVT ohm load scenarios,
maybe the dreaded zombie thread would die....only to rise again....I'm just sayin' is all.
Go easy on me, lovers!

The reason it doesn't sound as good is because it's being stressed. A lot of people talk about it as a "tightened" or "choked" sound. Yeah, I agree that the immediate risk is overrated, but when you need new tubes, don't come crying to me ;)

Lets keep the zombie thread alive.

I like how there are more than one conversations going on in this thread.

There are some of us having a serious impedance discussion and some of us having a serious zombie threads discussion.

It's like a chat room.

I turn into a zombie when i think about impedance, but for what its worth:

32 ohm: all speakers in paralell, if one voice coil opens, 7 others remain operational. I've also seen some mention of improved "back emf" performance.

running the 2 svts: setting the thing at 4 ohm, and putting 8 ohms of load on it, reduces power output, so its like 2 150's into the cab, instead of one 300.

sell one head, buy another 810, run in paralell, flip it to 2 ohms, bada boom, bada bing, louder, AND cooler looking.

Nope. Tube amps don't operate like solid state amps. It'll put out the same wattage regardless of impedance.

Yep. Tube amps don't operate like solid state amps. They require a transformer to match the high voltage / low current tubes to the world of low voltage / high current speakers. Thats why theres a switch on the back of good tube amps to MATCH the impedance range of the speakers to the tubes.

Some dude named Ohm figured out that for a given voltage and resistance, a certain amount of current would flow. Period.

Prove it to yourself. go get a bunch of cabs and wire them in series for a big old impedance, then try the same cabs in paralell. Which will be louder?

If you want to be loud just get an additional ampeg 2x15 (they're the same size as the 8x10) You'd be a lot louder and you'd have more control over your highs and your lows. I don't know what kind of music you're playing, but i've heard that set up before and jeebus is it loud.
