Ducttape bass?

IMG_0034.jpg

iv had this pbass copy laying around that i bought for $35 at a yardsale, and finally decided to do something with it.
it played really well for a pbass copy, but sounded like a trash can and was painted an awfull yellow color.
im only 17 and money is pretty tight, so i tried to do this as cheap as possible, doing all of the work myself.

the only spare pickup i had was an EMG-35 DC, i have never really heard one in a pbass before so i thought i would give it a try. as for changing the color... and im not much of a painter myself, and getting it painted would be to expensive. soo...

DUCT TAPE!

i think it turned out really well.
i plan on putting a new bridge on it and possibly new tuners.

does anyone know where i can get a cheap badass II?

Excellent1

Loose the tuners, and replace them with 4 sets of the small vice grips... (must be "vice grip" brand) the knockoffs stink!

Drill holes in the bolts that adjust the vice grips.... string em up, when you are in tune.... lock em down!

Good job!

Remember...... with a roll of duct tape.... and a pair of vice grips..... one can rule the world!

Pretty good job!;)

Gotoh 201 bridge. $40 from Warmoth.

Good job! I like the duct tape idea. you should finish the back completely though. Flea used to tape up his basses with neon tape back in the day. I'd love to find a $35 fix-'er-up bass.

Wait a minute...I did...I found a $40 First Act bass that is now my main player! Let's hear it for killer deals!!

at the moment i dont have them wired together....
the p pickup literally was the worst sounding pickup i have ever heard.
solo'd, the emg sounds alot better than i expected. its really bright, yet punchy, and extremely clear.
eventually i am going to replace the p pickup, i will get back to you when i do.

i had no idea that flea used to do that, id like to see some pics if anybody has any.
and btw do you have any pics of your first act , im curious to see how it turned out

Wait...you're looking for a $40 used bridge for a $35 used bass? Great job with the ductape and all but let not pour too much perfume on the pig, please. If you want to go cheap but good, buy an SX P Bass and go from there. I think it looked better in the stock yellow than with the tape job. But MHO, of course. How does it SOUND? That's the important question.

I was told to post this:

When I saw the title of the thread, I was expecting more of an eyesore. That looks pretty damn good. I don't have any experience in duct taping instruments or fashioning things out of soda cans, but from where I stand, it looks awesome.
