Dude, You Just Lost the Gig

Anyone, regardless of Gender, can be an Awesome Bass player. I have respect for female musicians that can grab your attention and "Wow" someone with their musical "skills".
As opposed to the female musicians peppered all over Youtube that want to display their musical or vocal abities while wearing a low-cut, skin tight shirt with their Boobs hanging out and pushed up to their throat..

RE: especially : discrimination against women

I find it somewhat ironic that Webster's definition of sexism is sexist, in and of itself.
They started with a neutral definition and then gave the context in which the term is most often used. Wonder why they felt compelled to add it, eh?

On a different but related note, I stay far away from threads that make me feel uncomfortable, like that one about backing hot singers. This one did not start out that creepy (after the title and first post, sort of) and became... something else.

At the risk of opening a huge can of worms it's worth saying that gender roles are different as a result of evolution not of discrimination, that we shouldn't pretend that genders aren't different as they thankfully are, and the only real issue is the mis-perception that one or the other is better or worse. There's nothing wrong with recognising difference, as long as there is equality and respect.

What if the thread were about hot singers of either/any gender or identity? Guy singers can be hot, or so I'm told :)

Keep in mind that just because you guys see them as equal does not mean everyone does. And the real potential benefit for shows or threads like this isn’t for the players but for creating a place where young girls can see women in a field they don’t often see them in and be able to appreciate them and see others appreciating them without getting the near ever-present comments on their looks or flat-out harassed. Ever been to a metal show when an attractive girl is in the audience? It’s pretty gross. Even here where we have a ton of forward-thinking members, we have very few female members due in part to so many getting chased off by salivating guys. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Promoting an environment where that is at least less of a factor is a good thing.
Where do you live that that happens? Im in chicago and I have never seen women treated poorly or differently at metal shows. If anything I've seen the crowd in general show extra urgency and care if a female is knocked down in the pit. And yes, I know what youre saying about the benefit to the shows but those very same bands play tons of other shows throughout the year. Its not like they dont get booked at "normal" shows and personally, I feel that doing female specific shows implies that they cant contend in the regular arena and/or are showcasing their gender as a novelty. Either one of those are bad for equality. Perhaps its different in our metal community.

I'm not usually attracted to men! Regardless of the subject's gender or my sexual orientation, threads like the singerbabe/whatever one makes me a) cringe (that title is pretty cringy) and b) click far, far away. I'm here for the basses, dangit.

Agreed. Could you imagine if only 2% of bass players were men and they all wore cut up muscle T's and bulge pants?

That's a great thing that is always summer when these girls record a video, I love it. Never seen a sweater on this type of videos. There is a girl drummer on youtube that must live in the Equator, she's always hot.

Don't get me wrong, but it is a little funny that these girls always find the need to show the pair. They are there, they are peaking, they wanna get out, they wanna be outside, but you can't look. If you look you're an a-hole.

Regarding the chops, way way better than mine, no doubt about that. Very talented. To bad they feel the need to show other talents than just the musical ones.
