Well, duh! You never recorded your bass parts and so the song was never finished!
Oh that's right! I can't believe I passed on making history!!!

It's really too stupid to make up, and I wish I was.

One that sticks in my mind was in 1990-1991 when the first Gulf War was happening. I was at a rehearsal for a friends music project. She wanted me to record a few bass tracks in the studio and provide bass for her live showcase.
So, I arrive at this house owned by her friends and fellow musicians. This drummer shows up. I'm told he'll be doing the showcase with us. Fine Sure no problem. However, there is something off about the guy. First, he brings in the junkiest, POS mini drum set I have ever seen in my life. Ok, not trying to pre-judge cuz I know some people can be masters on POS gear.
Then, he begins demonstrating just about every sign of a coke head including rubbing off the powder under his nose he left on when he did his line probably in his car. Ok, again. Fine. I've worked with doper musicians before. As long as they can do the work, I don't care.
He liked my bass playing. Very complimentary. Incredibly hyper guy though. His drumming....uh...not to much. Things like beat, tempo, groove pretty no existent. Again, ok let's just get through this rehearsal. On the first break he talked my ear off about a song he wrote and he was "guaranteed" it was going to get massive local (Madison, WI ) radio airplay. But he hasn't recorded it yet and wanted me to do the bass for it.
His song was titled "So Damn Insane". It was about the Gulf War. He then spent the next 20 minutes explaining to me how it was a take on "Saddam Hussein". I said earlier on I got it. Yet, spent the time either singing me his lyrics (not much melody) or repeating himself about 30 times how his song "So Damn Insane" is a take on Saddam Hussein. Usually, after stating the connection, he followed up with "you get it? you get it? You get it?"
Did I mention this went on for 20 minutes????
Anyway, my friend who invited me was apologizing and called the rehearsal because this drummer was so high he couldn't focus on getting back to the drums only about me playing on his hit song, which by the way didn't have any chords, structure, etc as of yet.
I bailed and said I'll do the studio work but I'm not going on stage with coke boy. She understood. We later did the showcase with a pro drummer and it was a blast.
Funny, I never did hear his "hit song" on the radio.![]()
The drummer was a complete jerrys kid IDIOT! Not a very good player to start (EXTREMELY limited and not too solid, crap drums to boot with delusions of grandeur), drugged up as all hell, got thrown out of his parents house and was living in the upstairs part of a local Denny's and you can bet was bumming money and whatever else. Tried to be a good sport but I knew from the jump it would NEVER work. The guitarist though was a really cool guy who had his life reasonably together, good solid rock player. He apologized for how things went and thanked me for coming out. Of course, i had to give jerrys kid there a ride back to the Denny's. Thankfully never saw him again. The drummer. Everytime.
Stilettoprefer said:I played in jazz band with an incredibly stupid pianist (I'm using the term "pianist" very lightly)
Me: "Can you hand out the parts that the teacher just gave you?"
Pianist: "he said not to, so bug off!"
Me: "fair enough, I'm not in the mood to beat a rich kids butt"
*as I turn around to talk to the drummer*
Band teacher: "1,2,3,4!!!!" ... "where's the rhythm section?!"
Drummer: "pianist is being a tard and not giving us our parts!"
Pianist: "oops"
I'm so glad that kid graduated last year. He didn't even know the difference between major and minor chords!!!!!!!!!
The drummer. Everytime.

the drummers i've had bands with are usually quiet, intelligent, and witty. almost never stupid or ignorant, even if they weren't necessarily the most skilled players. i guess i really haven't played with too many dumb people...dimwits are pretty easy to spot from a distance.

The drummer. Everytime.
