Dumbest/strangest reason for buying a bass?

I bought my first bass because I was a lousy guitar player and there weren't any bass players around. The logic was that even if I was terrible, there would be no competition and I could still play. The sad part is that it worked.

I'm currently trying to get a start-up reggae band off the ground. One of the songs on our set list is "Come Around" by Collie Buddz. It requires me to tune my E down to D. I could use my 6-string, but it's strung with rounds, and I like it that way, but I'd really like to use flats with the reggae band.

So now I'm thinking about dropping $1300 on a Carvin SB5000, basically so I don't have to tune down for one song in a band that may never see a stage.

Now THAT'S stupid.

Yep, guessed it could be a single case. My heart goes to all my single gigging bass pals
