Dummy Bass Cabs

How about getting some of the large blowup pics that are found on GC walls. (or make them yourself, take pics of Ampeg 8x10's) Mount them on Luan doors which can be bought cheaply or even found on Craigslist for almost nothing.

This would only work on a large stage where audience in enough of a distance away so they can't tell those are photos.

Hi.

Any theater/movie setmakers will make them for You.

Better yet, DIY route is quick and probably the most cost efficient.

Just my 0.02€
Sam
but thats union and prolly very pricey........if you dont plan to climb all over them and need them only for a vid or photo shoot one by four frames skinned w/ luan, painted on speakers hidden behind a grill would look convincing enough........

Keep in mind that there are easier (and more useful!) ways to "dress" a stage. You might consider pipe 'n drape (for backdrops), lighting / scaffolding (modern urban), etc. I applaud your desire to fill-out the stage for visual effect but I'd be hard-pressed to transport an assortment of dummmy boxes....we don't have enough vehicle capacity as is!

:eyebrow: ... AKA how BIG a show do ya wanna go?

Actually it does look pretty cool and brings the controls up to head level..

if you put real cabs above the dummys.. it will decrease stage volume.

I'd make them... piano hinges.. 3/8 birch plywood.. no speakers on the front... cover them in carpet.. make a top that your gear can go on.. they'll then collapse and should only weigh about 20# each.

If thinking stage effect.. put lighting behind them on foot controllers.

Not sure if you've noticed the only folks who can point out cabinets are bass/guitar players who will say your gear sucks anyways.

this made me laugh out loud and reminded me of a long time ago..
there used to be a band in the Chicago area called "Insane War Tomatoes" that musically was like a "heavy metal weird Al" ...cover tunes with different lyrics...anyway..their show was FUN...it started with the front curtain opening to reveal another black curtain with a spotlit MASSIVE pair of butt cheeks and a slide coming out from between the cheeks and behind the curtain...a deep bassy rumbling sound sample began in the speakers followed by dry ice shooting down the slide...loud raspberries followed by band members coming out of said ass down the slide onto stage...HYSTERICAL and a rip roaring applause..all before the music even started.

They also had on stage a peter brady exploding volcano and "Flaming tube of love" which was a jockstrap worn by the guitarist shooting sparks out of it...musically...lame...visually...great....

so..if you want extra fake cabs go for it...but think "outside the box" no pun intended...

better yet, don't collapse them and use them for storage! If it is just a little big larger then your actual cab that you use you can put your real cab inside of it for transporting and when you get there remove the back panel (hinges as he said but on the back) and pull your cab out of it. You will have only lost a few inches on each side of space inside the van plus your cab will have a little protection. Hell line it with foam and make it into a DIY not- quite-a-road-case.
