Dumping an ampeg stack and going with avatar

This past weekend I just did a show opening for the Classic Rock Allstars (great players great songs... grate show) Thier bass player, Dennis Noda (great player) had a backline New SVT 4pro head and and 810e. (logos were covered due to SWR agreement) My Ashly Bp-41/Mackie FR1400 and 2 Avatar 410neos were set up next to his rig. During the sound checks we were able to really compare the 2 systems at concert volumes. The Avatars had the SPLs the balls as well as had the tweeter clarity over the Ampeg along with more power handling. Both of our bands played 2 hours each. But the real difference came when it was time to tear down. There were 3 techs grunting while moving the Ampeg rig down off the 5 foot stage wereas, by myself, I had all of my gear down and loaded on my cart within 5 minutes. Dennis and each the techs had to pick up my cabinets themselves, because they could not believe they were that lite yet put out that kind of volume! The most important part was that everybody loved the tone from the Avatars. The drummer Peter Rivera (Rare Earth), also told me he liked my tone! Yes... my ego is stoked!

I did this exact switch, sort of. I have a SVT-CL and used to run it with a matching 810E and it sounded great. But, after leaving "the road" and playing mostly smaller (by comparison), more localized gigs i realized that the 810E wasnt practical. After selling it, I think i used the money to buy a motorcycle and just used a hartke 410. I started to play with some groups that demanded a larger on stage and rehearsal sound and after a TON of research and A/B-ing cab configurations, I went with 2 Avatar Neo 410's. They sound great to me, though every once in a while I find myself lusting after some sexy ampeg or bergantino stack. But comparing side by side with the potential avatar replacements, there just isnt enough of a benefit to switch. The Avatars are great sounding and super powerful AND easy to transport. I wouldnt consider a change from Ampeg to Avatar a step down the quality ladder, just sideways.

Currently running an svt410he and svt1510he with a kustom 1200h head. I like the tone I'm getting from it but both these cabs are heavy and neither sound very good on their own. I'm just about to pull the trigger on a 4 ohm avatar 212 and a 4 ohm 410 and sell my ampeg stack. I would use the 212 for small gigs and bring the 410 when I needed more volume. You guys think I'm nuts?

Perfect! ...if It sounds good to your ears. No reason to hide/duck on that. It's a great idea to pay attention to your body and to be mindful of avoiding injury. None of us are getting any younger. However, some of us can get SMARTER!
