Man, these are awesome!
These are some of the only flats I never tried before now. Recently, I got a new Stingray SLO special that I was having trouble getting to sound good. In the past, Ernie Ball Coblat flats worked great on my Stingrays, but not on this one. For some reason they sounded bad on this particular bass, thin, metallic, felt stiff...just not good.
I decided to try Dunlop flats on a whim (the lightest gauge) and let me tell you, these are THE flats for a Stingray! The seem to have basically all the good qualities I like about various flats, and NONE of the bad, without compromise. They don't neuter the Stingray tone like many flats do, but they aren't too bright or edgy either.
They have the matte silver, super smooth, frictionless/dry feel of Fender/Chromes but without that annoying metallic overtone. They are pretty flexible, more so than Cobalt flats. They are warmer, more even, and fuller than Cobalt flats, but still have that perfect Stingray growl to them on this bass. They possibly remind me a lot of EBMM Group flats, but again, much more flexible even at 95 vs. 100. Slightly less flexible than LeBella LTF.
Overall I'd describe them as very close to EBMM Group flats just better sounding and feeling, more flex and seem higher quality as well. I would also highly recommend them to anyone who likes Fender flats or Chromes, as they are similar, only better in every way.
Who's using these and what are you favorite qualities about them?
