At least for us, we used a lot of nickel-plated steel as the under wraps, as it was fairly close to stainless (nps typically only has a 8% nickel-plating on it, with some variants going to a 2%) in terms of tonality AND market price. Bass Boomers are made with all nickel-plated steel under wraps and final cover, until you get to the 3 cover gauges.

So that's another option; using nickel-plated steel.

That was also the biggest difference between B52s and Progressives. Both used nickel-iron as the final cover, but B52s used nickel-plated steel as the under cover, and Progressives used steel.

I got in touch with Dunlop to ask about the two sets, and got the reply below. They didn't address my question about wraps/layers at all, but I guess I can see that... they don't want to share their recipe! ha ha

It’s odd that the only available gauge for 4 strings is 45-105. It’s like they are giving these a trial and if they prove popular they’ll make them in other sizes.

Same for the 5 string set. If they sound good and feel right I'll be OK with it though.

Id say less flexible than the super brights but probably a little more flexible than daddario xls

I have noticed some newer sets of Super Brights are less flexible than they were when first released over a decade ago.
Food for thought.
FYI I have used Dunlops on my basses for the last 11 years almost exclusively. Great strings, very reliable.

I just wonder why these aren't stainless outer wrap so i can try them without blistering and corroding them? That would be honestly a cool unique innovation. Stainless outer with nickel inner and stainless core. That would create a smoother and more flexible string that has bite but can be smoothed out.

I like Super Bright Nickels too. I thought they aged really gracefully for round wounds.

I use the MM stainless steel Superbrights or SIT Power Steels on most of my Thunderbirds. I’ll be giving these a try.

I absolutely loved them they were like a more modern flat


can get “big” and fat like la Bella’s but also very bright with a tone control like chromes or cobalt flats
But way more flexible and easier on the hands
