Dunlop Super Bright Bass Strings

These are Brand New From Dunlop. Put as set on my Brubaker KXB-5 Custom and well I've found me a new string. IMO they are Da Bomb.

I've tried Rotosounds, DRs, D'addario, EB, Musicians Gear, GHS Boomers etc. Had a friend who kept bugging me to try Dunlops. Dunlops? I was like aren't they cheap azz strings? Well let me tell you something. They have a Brand New String out called Super Bright. They come in SS and Nickel. I tried a set of their Super Bright Stainless Steels on my Brubaker KXB-5 Custom and Played at two events with them. I'm here to tell you I found my new string. I'm a Slapper and when I finished playing with one guy who plays for Smokie Robinson, Pattied LaBelle, Maysia, etc he said I'm going to call you slapping-stein!!! The next week my band played a gig. I had my Brubaker KXB-5 Custom, Puma 500 Bass Head and Eden 2x12 cab. Man I was killin the whole gig. My tone, slap and finger style were BANGING. The band kept looking at me the whole night just smiling at me. Tone is very subjective for us bass players, but if you're in the mood to try a different string and you're a slapper spend the dough one time to check out a set of the Dunlop Super Bright SS joints. They also make them in Nickel for those who feel SS is too rough. I looked at the packaging and it says right on the box, formulated or made for Slapper. This is true. These are a Slappers delight. Dunlop Super Brights are going on all my axes.

I understand what you're saying so I would guess as these are Brand New from Dunlop they are feeling their way through this. I happen to be a slapper that prefers lighter gauage strings to include a .125 B. I've played on .130 B's and like them too. Still in IMHO these strings sound great. The price is decent as well.

I just spoke to the folks at Dunlop. .130 B's are available right now as singles for the Super Brights. They are working right now on different gauged sets. Give em a try!!!

These strings are in stock at Bass Strings online. If you want your local store to stock these Dunlop says they can make that happen too.

Philly, I get that you're a slapper - not a rocker. But how would you assess the Dunlop Super Brights (stainless steel) for modern rock?

Currently I use DR Lo-Riders stainless steel for that application, and they work very nicely. The lows are big, yet tight. And the high mids and the highs have a nice chime, but are not clanky as so many stainless steel rounds can be. But I'm always open to other alternatives, such as the new D'Addario Flex Steels, and possibly Dunlop Super Brights.

They seem to have more mids, and high mids and provide a bigger spectrum of sound. I also play a lot of finger style and they IMO sound good for Finger Style as well. I was pleaseantly surprised with them especially in a gig siutaion. I played two separate gigs on two different rigs in one night and each time my bass was kicking. These to me are not clanky and are worth trying. Bass Mods and Nordstrand now use them. I'm not just singing praises, I just think they are worth a try. Remember though you want the Super Brights and not the regular Dunlop strings. I too at one time was a naysayer about Dunlop strings for no good reason. I have found my new string. I also have a Rock background as I played in a rock band in college and afterwards played in a Led Zep trubute band before the terms was developed. I play on Brubakers and Jazz basses.

All depends on the individual. I sweat profusely when I play but I'm always wiping down my bass and strings. Two weeks, two gigs, and practice and they still sound good. If you like round wounds you'll likes these. As I mentioned before Bass Mods and Nordstrand now use Super Brights so there must be somthing too them.

Played a Gig last night with the Dunlop Super Bright Satinless Steels. My tone. finger style and slap was absolutely Killing!!!!

I'm using the super brights on my 'dowsky now. 40-120's.. killer feel and sound great. They've got the tone when I want to dust off the thumb, but they sound super cool on a back pickup sound, and they're fine when I have to tone rolled off, which is the sound I go for most.. Love them!

What's the definition of ironic? Saying a string has no character, but then installing D'Addario's which have about as much character as a leaf rake :)

But really, make sure you didn't twist the strings when you installed them, as nothing you said fits the description of SuperBrights...as you can see by the massive love thread here!

The D'Adds have way more of the sound I desire. The Dunlops sounded just lifeless. The zing was there but just not pleasing to my ear. I would have just let them stay on until it was time for another string change but the dead E killed the vibe for me. I also didn't find them any brighter than the D'Adds. Maybe I just got a bad set. In any case, experiment over.

Super Bright to me is a misnomer for at least the nickels. I didn't find the set that I bought bright at all. But those mids...
