Dunlop Super Bright Bass Strings

Yeah I've said it a few times that I'm not a fan of the name. SuperBrights are not 'bright' in a clanky, harsh sort of way like D'Addario's. They are 'bright' like a wide open sky. Nothing is missing, they are so clean and clear and full of life. 'Energetic and perky' is how I would describe them, so maybe they should rename SuperBrights to 'High School Cheerleader' :)

But all seriousness aside, I knew right away when I tried them that they'd be very polarizing strings, with their fans exhibiting cult-like slavish devotion to them and the non-fans not liking them much at all, and so far it seems to be playing out exactly as I predicted. I fall in the former category myself. Love 'em. They give me what I want no matter if I'm looking for a dark tone, a bright tone, or something in between. I think the Super Brights name doesn't tell the whole story, but they are brighter than most nickels to me. My only problem with them is deciding if I want to use them live or dead. I go in spells. Right now I'm digging the live sound again.

And since the high school cheerleaders never did a thing for me except let me know that I could never date them, I hope they don't run with your idea, Bongo!

How so? Honestly, they just sounded generic to my ears. I don't get the hype! Also the dead E string put me off big time. I'll just stick to my go to strings. I'm friends with Keith Horne and I asked what string he played. He said Ernie Ball Slinky's. He won't play anything else. He swears by them. Guess what? I don't like their strings either.

I too have experienced the dreaded "DEAD E STRING" straight out of the pack. Man I hate when that happens. However, this also shows how much I love them since it happened on the very first pack that I ever bought but not the second, then again on the third, and now again on the set that I just bought. I think it may be a bad batch sent to Amazon because this is where I bought them all since I can't get them locally.

Yeah I don't buy from Amazon because you never know what you're going to get or what they've been through.

www.bassstringsonline.com is the only place to buy strings. Factory fresh, superb service, and he has a discount program just for TB members.

Second the motion for not buying strings from Amazon. I have been using BSO exclusively for about a year or so now. Previously, I purchased all my strings through Amazon as I was using Rotosound Swing Bass 66 and those are a dime a dozen on Amazon. And because they are a popular brand, you can pretty much guarantee you are getting a fairly "fresh" set. But, just last Friday I ordered a set of the Marcus Miller Super Brights because I wanted to compare them to the regular SS Super Brights...which are my #1 at this point and on all my basses. I purchased from Amazon just so I could get them quickly to try over the weekend. Well, wouldn't you know that I was sent a package of regular SS Super Brights with a barcode/description sticker for MM Super Brights over the barcode sticker on that package. Nice try Amazon...

I will never stray from BSO again!

Dunlop has had issues with certain runs in the past. I bought a few packs from GC that were all old stock and had issues. Dunlop customer service is good and they quickly addressed the problem.

I don't find these amazing on everything. I do like them on my Ray34 however. Much better option than EB.

The issues with the strings seemed to be remedied. I haven't had any problems in over a year.
Dunlop CS took care of the issues on 2 defective sets right away. Within 24 hrs of contact they mailed out 6 sets for my trouble.
If you liked them otherwise give them another shot. Just make sure you order from a place like BSO that keeps fresh stock.

I only order bass strings from BSO the last couple years as well.
Too many times I've received bad sets from Amazon, GC and the like. Guitar strings same problem.
Soon as Jason gets GSO up and running I won't buy from any where else as long as he is around.
