I hope not. It's probably a bad sign when it does.
I’m actually think about buying an(other) old DSI Tetra 4 for a particular sound I think I need.
Still love the looks of that v1 parabellum though. One of the sexiest pedals I've seen in a LONG time.
While I'm lately straying away from RATs, Fowl Sound's Backstabber (2.0) looks really interesting.
The Idiotbox Blower Box can cop a couple of the sounds from my Volt Thrower.
It's cheap and available and gets you into the ballpark.
I hear goood things about the electeofoods nepentheses. I think that’s rat based.
How do the Fuzzrocious Rat/Cat pedals stack up? I’m sure someone has compared the VT to one of those.
I haven’t compared the Rat Tail to the VT, but I have compared a Demon to a ODB, (both based on the Fultone OCD) and they were different enough - I stuck with the ODB.
Edit: I've had a couple Earth Bound Audio Iron Pigs and I like them. Ultimately not as tasty as the VT, but very good.

Stacks up well against a Broughton Locust Star. Cat Tail is a little edgier and more aggressive sounding in comparison.
Haven’t had a Volt Thrower to compare it to, but Fuzzrocious Cat/Rat Tail is a top tier Rat IMHO.

I haven't tried Fuzzrocious rats, and it's been a long time since I had a VT, but I A/Bd an Electrofoods Nepenthes to a Broughton Locust Star and kept the Nepenthes. More versatile in my setup, and on similar settings I felt the Nepenthes was a little more meaty and capable of more gain.
To play Devil's advocate, I went the other way! But both are incredible pedals. I'm not really a Rat fan in general (though I want to be!), and either is more than capable of getting plenty of amazing tones. Just depends on your rig I think.

After this comment, I went and dug out my old Iron Pig. Still not quite as good as my Muffs for the tones I'm wanting (which are thick and doomy - not necessarily easy for a Rat!), but certainly great for some in your face distortion. My tastes have been trending slightly brighter as of late and I may have to try more Rats again...
