Dunwich Amplification General Discussion

Finally landed a Temporal Rift! Digging this more than the Gravity Wells.

Do you still have / play the DEATH ? I was so curious about this one I asked Ryan from RCO to recreate one for me, with a few twists (a clean blend with LPF, and maybe the possility to engage the boost and octave at the same time)

So is the song Volt Thrower by Conan Inspired by the pedal Volt Thrower? or is it a common fun twist of the all time great Bolt Thrower.
Recent exploration for new Music there is a band called "Bong Thrower" LOL

I wanted my tone to sound broken and angry in the decay. Horrible like a coffee can with a wasp nest, inside a clothes dryer. Then have real bass as well for Detune
In the 90's I had the worst fuzz pedal ever made. Old heathkit in a weird cast metal case. Almost sounded like backwards octave up after eating chili dogs.
But broken with a dead battery with really bad chili from 711. Actually was pretty cool ran off a single AA battery. Then blend with passive mixer and big muff " opamp" as they call it these days. Make less horrible with bass using graphic MXR EQ pedal. Be cool to get that sound again ,one pedal not six million cables and space.

I ordered one first thing this morning. I have the original Giza and while it has some good tones, it's limited due to the one knob format. I've wanted a Matamp preamp for a while but they're either hard to find or too expensive. The new Giza is crazy in that not only do you get a Matamp pre but also 3 different drives all in the same box. I don't buy gear very often but I couldn't resist this pedal.

I'm curious to hear what my Volt Thrower clone will sound like through it.

Still have it but it doesn’t get played much. DEATH allows for all 3 or any combination to be engaged at the same time. As for clean with LPF, I run my dirt through a Broughton Filter FX Loop which does that. :)

Hey guys! Hoping someone here can lead me in the right direction.

So I’ve got a Dunwich Volt Thrower (in 125b enclosure) and it started to act up a week ago or so.

I’d say 30% - 40% of the time, when I disengage the pedal, the LED will cut out, but no signal is bypassed at all - almost like a mute switch. When this happens, I must press the footswitch again which engages the pedal, then press once more to actually disengage the pedal totally.

I’m looking for a solution, or for a trustworthy builder to inspect and repair it. I’ve reached out Magic Pedals, but have not heard back, so wanted to try this group next.

Added some gut shots for your evaluation. I’m no sonic wizard so I can’t really assess it myself.

Appreciate your time and any potential help!

My gut says it's the footswitch - I hope it's something that simple as I have a Pharaoh Supreme with a similar issue. About 25% of the time, when I press to engage it, the signal is very weak, like it's barely making a connection. I either have to stomp it off and then on again, or sometimes I can just barely depress the footswitch and it will make contact and act fine again until I turn it off.

But, like you, I am also no "sonic wizard". Neither am I a "Sonic Titan"... Good luck!

From the Magic website : There are 2 top mounted toggle switches which can control the clipping diode arrangement (LED/MOSFET) and the input low shelf (controls the low end RC cutoff of the first gain stage). The input low shelf helps to tailor the amount of low end reduction early in the circuit.
Also :
**REV 2 - Op amp has been swapped from OPA2134 (REV 1) to a TL072. More bite/attack and more gain **

Worth checking your serial number to know wich one you have. I bought and "old" unit like 2 months ago, more out of curiosity as I use a VT for my main tone, but it is so good at any settings I can't stop playing it. Now I'd be curious to try out that other Op amp.

Only thing is they don’t explain each toggle position specifically, so I can’t be certain what position does what. But yeah, it’s an awesome sounding overdrive. Very aggressive yet warm and reactive to your playing. Sounds great paired with a Sansamp BDDI too. Between the Olde Dirty Bass and Damnation Audio Bass Grinder, I really have my dirt needs covered.

Hey all. Just got an Olde Dirty Bass. Sounds pretty rad so far. Would someone be able to explain to me what each toggle position does? There are three left to right positions for both toggles.

If memory serves, the Left switch toggles between MOSFET clipping - No diodes (center position) - LED clipping.
And, the switch on the Right side selects how much low end you want.

Edit: Nick explains it here... https://www.talkbass.com/threads/du...eral-discussion.1104549/page-89#post-20316353
