Dyed, natural feeling alder...good idea?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to finish a carvin kit bass. If I can, I'd like to stay basic with options, meaning the wood choice is alder. I like the look and feel of some of the newer warwicks that are colored but still natural feeling. Would such an effect look decent on alder? I'm not overly concerned about grain pattern, or lack therof.

If this is feasible, what are my options of going about this? (I've read the stickies and have been reading reranch and other sources, I just need some guidance).
