So as the owner of three VL 208's ... who's not heard the newer TC 112 & TC 115 from Duke LeJune at Audiokinesis, or the the Crazy 8 and Crazy 88 from Mike Arnopol, or the Big E Cabinets ...

Should I be looking to sell what I have for new technology?

I agree with Ric. While my VL-208's haven't made it to a gig in a long time, that's mostly because I am always reviewing gear that needs to get out to a gig. Since we live pretty close, I keep taking a lot of this gear down to Phil Maneri to check out, and so far, I don't think that anything has entirely trumped his VL-208's (though he did really like the TC112AF).

We have not tried the Crazy 8's or Big E's yet, though.

That VL-208 still holds its own, sonically, in my book. But there certainly are lighter cabs which get you in the same ballpark...

Good points Tom. In my gig profile the TC 112 has virtually replaced the VL 208 for anything other than a piano or guitar duo. For those, I still use the EA VL 108, because it's a perfect match for my bass fitted with Evah Parazzi Weich Strings, the Ehrlund EAP and Pre Amp, and a Walter Woods MI-400-8. If I had to go to something else for concerts and other gigs, the VL 208 could be brought back into service. It does need more available power (headroom) from an amplifier (no problem for me) to get the full benefit of the extended lows it produces.
