I run typically a NL210 and a CXL112 for outdoor gigs at around 2-3 o'clock with my cover band www.coverstory.com. Our drummer used to play with Iron Butterfly and is not very quiet.
Guys from the PA tell me in some situations that they took me off the PA.

So, the "old" 800 never posed a problem for me with this combination.

There was some debate much earlier about the output of the 800 and it would seem on the face of it that the Doubler may be suffering from the same issue. but wait!

What I'm finding is that EA (the doubler at least) has designed these heads to run clean, clear and undistorted from zero to ten, where most other designs you'd never even consider running a preamp gain much past 1 o'clock or the master for that matter. I learned this first from the master output audio taper on my Glock HR.

Once you embrace this and realize that it's totally safe and possible to run the pre and master at ten when you need full volume and many of the designs we're used to just start to distort or stop getting louder at a certain point. I have now rethought why many of the amps in the past go to ten but you'd not dare go past 6.....

Yup!

I've had my iAmp-600 dimed with an 8ohm CX-310 cab.
It does get fairly loud, but not as loud as I'd like (I play with a pretty light touch, so someone that really has an aggressive attack with their bass will get very different results).

My Pro should be here sometime early this week, if it's not sitting at my door when I get home today.

At 600 watts at 8 ohms and 1200 at 4 ohms and the ability to run safe at 2 ohms I don't see any reason that this 9 lb wonder shouldn't move pretty quickly to the top of the micro list.

I've received a few PMs from guys saying they absolutely love the head but nobody seems to be sharing thoughts in the public forum?????????

What's the deal?

This thing is unreal.

I first have to say quiet as can be, for those that might be concerned based on one of the older heads. Now this thing is just about the quietest thing on the planet.

The flat tone is great and very similar to the Doubler with a little more low end push. To get them almost identical I cut some lows (-10db@55hz approximately).

So this head is ridiculously loud, there will be very few cabinets that this thing cannot fully power. As a point of reference my favorite head a Glock HR which is a monster led sled with 750 watts at 4 ohms and I'd say the IAMP Pro will easily keep up if not beat it out in terms of sheer volume.

I was lucky enough to own an IAMP350 for a good period of time and from a tone shaping angle this thing is just perfect, you can dial in just about anything you can dream up. At the same time the head sounds killer totally flat. I don't love the presets accept contour I sounded pretty nice, otherwise there not my thing, I wouldn't be suprised if other people really love those features though.

Maybe I've been spoiled by the Doubler for a while now but this head seemed fairly large in comparison and the manual is listing it at 10lbs not the 9 listed on the site. I wouldn't put this in the micro category but it certainly is still small.

Not much else to say pretty impressed thus far..

I'm actually on break at the moment I have a sub filling in for me until mid September which will allow me to help out the wife with our new baby.

In any case I am pretty sure this thing is going to kill on gigs and since my Doubler is great on about 75% of my gigs this beast only has to cover me for the loudest 25%.

A little more on the pairing of each of these heads with my EA cabinets. I know I am starting to build an EA collection.....

First focusing on the PRO, suprisingly I can get my VL108 stack to clean volumes I honestly didn't think it could achieve. Although this small stack is really my small practice rig and using the DOUBLER at home with it and on some other stuff I talk about later.

Using the PRO with my VL208 stack is pretty pillowy as you might imagine, it has more of an old school type tone. It sounds really good but for me it's not my optimal rig. The PRO with the NL210 sounds really nice just the right amount of top end without being to brittle until I start to push it to it's max. The best combo with the PRO is a VL208 on top of my NL210 this seems to have the perfect balance between bright and snappy while providing a nice full bottom when really pushed. Since this type of volume is only neccessary for a few very large clubs that I play and some big outdoor events in the summer the added schlep of two cabs and the larger head should be no big deal. If I was playing 2 or 3 gigs a week needing this kind of power I'd probably consider a 4x10 cabinet but that's not the case for me.

Most of the corporate stuff and small clubs I do work perfectly with my NL210 and I think I'll be able to interchange the Doubler and PRO on these types of gigs. At least in the beginning it will be nice that the Doubler sneaks into the accessories pocket of the PRO bag. That will allow me to do some A/Bing on site.

The Doubler is the best Upright amp I've ever owned and paired with a VL208 it is tone heaven, I don't think I'd be inclined to use anything else unless I am playing with a trio in a really small restaurant and in that case a single VL108 will do the trick.

The VL108 stack also works out really well with the DOUBLER for pit work. I ussually do about 3 or 4 productions a year, thus far I've done 1 with this rig. And it's super small foot print helps out in the tiny pits I tend to be stuck in. The tower allows me easy access to the amp controls and getting great tone at very low volumes.

The DOUBLER on top of my VL208s provides the best P bass tone which I pull out on some gigs where I'm doing all motown or classic rock. I don't think the PRO will replace that set up as that stack get's pretty loud on it's own.

A little more on the EQ for those that are not familiar. First off it works the same way as the older IAMPs and is also similar to a Millenia TD1 for those that are familiar.

The lows has a frequency slider from 40-180 hz., the low mids has a slider from 180hz-1khz, the high mids slider is from 880-5k and the highs from 1k-5k. In addition the two mid bands have an adjustable Q or the width of the frequency that is effected. It is very nice that the cut boost knobs measure in DBs which is nice for reference. There is also an on off for the EQ so you can dial something in and then A/B to the head flat or to one of the presets. This thing is powerful and quiet!

I had touched on the audio taper with the doubler and the PRO is no different this head seems to put out clean clear tone all the way up the gain and master outputs. Unfortunately I do not have a cabinet that can come close to handling both the pre and master at ten to fully test that out. Honestly baseed on my experiences I don't think I've ever owned a cabinet that could take all the power with this thing dimed without exceding the cabs capabilities, but I'm only guessing this....

So it's not a micro head, it's certainly bigger then the MB F1/ F500 and a little bigger then a LMIII but these heads like the DOUBLER suffer from not being able to always deliver that monster power requirments that we all have at some point. This head fits right in the middle, it's small, light and provides the monster output capabilities of a huge Glock HR, Aguilar DB750 or Carvin B1500.

+1 For that particular combination, an 8ohm L410 makes much sense. For most other things, not so much...

I would think this head would have enough oomph at 8ohms to drive a 15/6 very nicely, if the tone was to your taste.

Yep, one at least ; } ...If I was not into my separates this would be on my extremely short list of heads. A grown-up EQ section and lots of power, and most likely the default "when all is flat" voicing doesn't predetermine much.
