Ear gauging- opinions?

So they do heal when and if you take them out?

They kinda close up, but your ears look like a cat's bottom. I knew a guy who, when he got sick of them, realised there was no way back and so snipped the lobe so there was two strips of flesh dangling down from his ear instead, and pierced the end of those instead. I've known some weird people.

Unless you go mental (over 12mm or so IIRC) you'll be fine, and worst case scenario you'll have to wear small plugs for the rest of your life, unless you feel an urge to have your ears look like cat's bottoms. A lot of my mates now wear about 4 or 5mm plugs or tunnels where they used to have HUGE ones. A good rule of thumb is that if you can get your hand, (or on one memorable occasion, ankle) through, you've gone too far.

IMHO, you ought to get it pierced at a sensible gauge, 1.6mm or 2.4mm and stretch up to where you feel comfortable. If you have it cut out with a scalpel or punched out at a higher gauge it'll take longer to heal and presents a much bigger risk of infection, not to mention discomfort. Make sure the shop you go to is registered with the local authority, uses fresh needles for every client and sterilises all other equipment with an autoclave, and if in doubt ask to see it. A proper body piercer will be happy to show you and allay any other doubts you have. I find personal recommendation is the best way to find a good place to go. Make sure you follow the instructions on how and when to clean it TO THE LETTER! The last thing I want to see is a thread about your ear being green, puss filled and swollen, (despite the opportunities this would offer you to fulfill your bizarre desire to get strange bodily fluids on your beloved shergold,) followed by another about it dropping off.

Good Luck!

Wow. Just wow.

Luckily a combination of both the fact I'm in a praise and worship band and the fact my uni wouldn't be too impressed stops me from going too mental.

Getting your ankle though a piercing...that's got to be the most amazing thing I've heard.

Luckily I live near to a place that specialises in this kind of thing, so I'll ask there.

Also, I saw that little bit about my Shergold! :D

You can see that there is still a slight hump to my lobe, but nothing out of the ordinary after about 4 years of having them out now that I look at the dates of the pics.
Hope this helps
