Ear gauging- opinions?

I'm not anti modification or an old stuffy fogey. (I am 45 years old though). I love tats. I have 8 of them and will get more.

I'm not anti piercing. I think some can be damn sexy on girls, especially eyebrow and nose.

I think ear stretching is one of the most disgusting and unsightly things you can do to yourself. I've never seen anyone it looked good on. Just my two cents.

Just curious, what makes it so disgusting and unsightly? What's the difference between having something 10mm through your ear, or a big hoop earring? What about a belly button/tongue piercing? Or anchors/bars? Do you find them as disgusting?

Just generally interested, I can think of plenty more extreme things that people do to their bodies that makes tunnels look like childs play.

I concur with the po po.

While guages may look hot on a chick who is 21, the holes wont look all that good on a grown woman in her late 30s. But like I said, I had a 2 and 4 that have since closed up into funny looking dots that can barely even take a regualt peircing stud now. IF you start going into the 0,00 1/2 inch range, the whole will probably get to the point that it will never fully close. My biggest one will never be shut I am sure.

If you are going to do it, do it over time and carefully, those keliod (sp?) bumps do not look attractive under any circumstances. I would think even people who love the idea would agree on that.

My earlobes are stretched to 7/16", and I'll be going up to 1/2" in a couple of weeks. They're currently the only mod on my entire body; I used to have surface bars in my wrists, but just had them removed yesterday due to irritation. I have a couple of tattoos on the way as well.

IDK, some people think stretching earlobes is vile, but it's actually the only piercing I'm really comfortable with getting. Everything else seems kind of random and haphazard, whereas the stretched earlobes just kind of "feel" more natural. Hard to describe.

Personally I think gauges look neater than plain post piercings. My ears are 1/2" so far (goal being 1") and I don't think they look ridiculous, I love them. Plus, they match my bass. ;)

Who says I'm not keeping my gauges in for life? ;)

I says it. Why? Because I am only 25 and i already outgrew it. Of course I work for a living, do not only buy chicken if it lived a good life before its head unceremoniously lopped off, and am not holding my breath for a car that runs on unicorn farts and emits only rainbows, So YMMV :)

All jokes aside, it will get old eventually. Its only a matter of time. Ever seen an 80 year old dude with a tattoo on his forearm? That pinup girl usually looks a lot like a walrus by then. I am going to be in good company in the retirement home with a bunch of other old folks who have a strang wrinkly hole through their floppy old earlobe. I'm ok with that, but I am a dude and not very attractive anyhow.

That was probably my #1 response when I first got my ears stretched- "What about when you're old?" or "How will that look when you're 85?" You're probably not going to be a sex-machine when you're that old anyway, what's an extra hole or ink going to matter? I'm only 20 once, I'll enjoy it while it's here.
