Early 70's SVT

Hey guys,
I've got a line on an SVT.. early 70's one.
I'm wondering if some of you can share some insight on it. Cosmetically its on perfect condition, have some questions about the inside. How does it look to you guys? And are those caps original?
Any other thoughts you have on it, share. Thanks.

I'm not an expert, but that seems to be a fair price... neither a "steal" or a "ripoff" but right up the middle.

Personally, if you have the money and it's been taken care of - serviced when needed and not neglected - I would buy it. I don't see the rust (?)... that amp looks pristine to me. Clean!

Do you play rock music? I think the SVT is the best rock amp of all time. Just my opinion though.

$1600 hundred us.. converted it for u so it would be easier to judge.

yah, doesnt seem like a ripoff though.

if it plays good, it think it may follow me home


and yes, I mainly play rock.. but when I'm all alone, I love to throw down some jazz

Price is pretty much in line with going prices - maybe a little on the low side based upon my watching sales of these for the last year or so. About $2000 was probably the average during my watching period. Maybe a little less with the current economic conditions. Original caps etc. is not a deal breaker 'cause parts do need replacing from time to time. More important IMO are other things that are sometimes missing, added, modified or ruffed up. I'm no expert, but seems as though I remember reading rust was not good and after a certain point, was detrimental to performance. I also don't think that the ampeg emblem was on the SVT head. A couple of things you might want to check out. There's a good bit of info under some other threads. You might want to do a search. It's never too late to jump on the vintage SVT band wagon. :cool:

The guy who is selling it said it's all original (other then changing the plug to a 3 prong). Also said hes had a tech looking after it for the last 20 years he has had it, so it is in perfect working condition.
I'd like to be able to trust the guy, but you never know. I'll give it a test run anyway and if all goes well, I'll purchase it.

Alright, I thought the shellack build up was rust. N/M about the rust comment then. I'm not a buff on the inside of these babies, even though I'd like to be more in the know, its not my current field of engineering.

Hi.

Very clean looking, go for it.

No matter how hard I look, the only place I see possible rust is a tiny spot in the air gap in the PT. If You mean the shellack build ups, that's no rust ;).

Can't say anything about the price though, no such beasts for sale in here :(. But if the price of any vintage amp is the same or below the current offering/reissue, I consider it to be a decent price.

That thing looks puss to me. That little bit of surface rust can't be any big deal. I've seen some pics of other svt's that are way worse. SVT's rule. period.

you know, looking at the pics I'm not even sure if that rust or not. Looks like it could just be the rust preventative they put on the bare metal of the big square things (transformers?) I think that stuff is kind of orange looking. Cosmoline or something I think it might be called.

Go for it. I havent even thought about another amp since I got mine last year. Yours even looks like it has the USA 6550's! Do you think one will ever pop up again near you if you pass on this one? If so, will it be as clean? Will it be more money?

Its a no-brainer! If you like it, absolutely buy it. You wont lose money on it.
