Earplugtings

So, time for new gear.

Ears are getting pretty bad after rehearsals, so I'm looking for protection, but nothing to go on apart from some pretty emotional reviews.

I'm looking at two generic kinds (no way on earth I am getting £/$200 custom made):

I've used Etymotic Research ER-20 plugs for about two years. Like them alot, getting custom molded soon.

I have both of those in addition to real musician earplugs (always keep a backup system in my wallets in case I forget the musician earplugs back home. Both are fine but I like the ER-20s more as they are easier to insert and remove.

If anyone plays with no earplugs, pretty sad, after fingers your ears are as important long term.

The primary difference is frequency response. Musicians earplugs are designed to have a more uniform (flatter) frequency response compared to regular plugs so things sound more natural and less muffled. Also, musicians earplugs are available with different levels of attenuation if desired.

I use the Alpine MusicSafe Pro earplugs and they work just fine and come with 3 different filters (9dB, 15dB, and 26dB IIRC)

To me, a set of these 'custom'ones has really been worth it.

I've used the alpines for about 2 years now. And I think they are fantastic! the choice of 3 different filters means that you have the perfect protection going from a very loud metal band to a quite function band highly recommended.

Yeah it's pretty amazing. I hate wearing ear plugs but I hate my ears ringing even more.

Yeah, i got Custom ER-9's. Definitely worth the 200euro, Small change considering how much most of us have spent on the basses and amps we're using.
