East Tennessee Talkbass

I am playing this month at Trinity UMC as a sub for their regular player who's taking a break. Zero theatre action since May 2015. My old circle of music directors have moved on or gotten out of it. I've been working on making new theatre contacts in Knoxville circles, but it's not panning out yet. This is turning out to be a quiet year for me.

Gear news: I did luck into a good deal on an NS Design NXT in early spring, but obviously haven't had a chance to play it out yet. I built up another Warmoth J-bass, had had the black limba/poplar burl body for a long time. I put a wenge neck on it, gold hardware. It's a looker. Will swap out the EMG actives for a set of Invalid Link Removed and a Invalid Link Removed this week. I also had Music Room Guitars put a Vol/Blend/Tone set from Stew-Mac in my blonde Douglas violin bass. It's sweet.

Warmoth builds very nice bodies. It's a pretty bass. After I get the Bartolinis in, I'll post a picture here.

By the way, the bass sounds terrific with the EMG actives and roundwounds. I have another instrument in mind for the EMGs- it's nothing against them at all. I have played instruments with EMGs for years.

When Bartolini announced the Invalid Link Removed, I felt they would be perfect for the Warmoth.

WOW!!!! I have to blush!!! That is my darling daughter Chasity!! She plays bass full time there now. I have been demoted to electric guitar.:spit::spit: She makes me so proud. She loves to play. In that pic she is playing a Warwick Streamer Stage 1 five string. She now pretty much always plays a Warwick 5 String Corvette Standard Fretless. I could not be more proud. I brag on her every time I get a chance. Thank you Michael for giving me another chance.:D:D:D:laugh:

The Corvette Fretless totally belongs to her. We totally share everything though. When we play out, she uses my Aguilar rig just like it was her's. I always work on dialing the tone in and she knocks the playing out of the park. She picked up so quick and was just a natural for it. She has a great "internal clock" for sure.
At church, I have her playing thru an Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal with a Morley boost pedal. We have a GREAT PA system at church and a sound man who is so much better than we could ever ask for, and he has a heart to serve. He has those basses dialed in and they sound huge. He is a true blessing to us.
I cant brag on them without bragging on our whole praise team. They are a group of loving, dedicated people who love to serve others and love Jesus. They make it easy for us to be a part of the group. I have been with them since the start of the church in 2005 and there is no place I would rather be.

I can not say enough good about Paul's (Thumpin_P) work. He worked on the Warwick Vette and did a refret on my 72 Fender P Bass. I could not be more pleased and highly recommend him to everyone. Paul is an absolute standup guy and a pleasure to work with. You wont be sorry.

Thanks to all for the welcome to ETTB! I've lived in a handful of different places (Denver, Chicago, Detroit, Memphis, now here) and I've been around Chattanooga for about five years now. My latest gig is a variety band with a group of great people and great friends from Chattanooga and north Georgia. There's some soul, some rockabilly, some country, some blues...a mix of styles to draw on for different occasions. We'll be on the Unum Stage at the Riverbend Festival this Friday evening for an hour and fifteen minute slot. I'll be sure to get the start time and post it.

This is a long thread, but I'm going to go back through it and see just how many ETTBers we have in here. Looks like the bass is well represented on this end of the state!

I would love to see that! Tom, as you know, the bass I bought has had some modification and subsequent restoration done. I won't know much until I get it in my hands but I have admired your work for a few years and could not pass up the opportunity when this one came back on the block. May have to send it to you for your opinion if all is not as I hope. Or... If you vacation in the Smokies..... Thanks for posting to our little corner of TB!

OK - Got the Clement bass in and as I suspected, it has some issues. 1) Very noisy in active mode. I will see if a battery swap will fix that. 2) Bent top shaft on the stacked bass/treble pot. 3) push/pull coil tap is not working. 4) Finish is a little blotchy as a P/O did some sanding/minor re-shaping and appears to not have applied enough oil. This one really doesn't bother me as my basses are tools and not wall hangers. 5) Crappy strings, but I already have a set of lo-riders for it that I will put on when the other issues are straightened out. Even with all of the above, I can tell that it's going to be a beast when correct.

I sent ThumpinP a PM. I would like to give Paul the opportunity to work on it before shipping to FL, but if it's more than he is comfortable with, I will contact Tom. Either way, I'm going to make sure it is correct. The bass deserves that.

Nothing makes me happier than the look of pleasure, on customer's faces...but, especially bass players...we are a little more level headed than lead guitarists...lol I love my bass players and am very happy to know this bunch!!!

Looking for recommendations on the best local refretter willing to do stainless steel frets.
I have a guitar that either needs to be refretted eventually or sold.

Let the search radiate outward from the Maryville-Knoxville area.
