Hope all the ETTB gang are having a good 2017 so far!
I wanted to follow up on my December post by mentioning that I returned the Genzler Bass Array 12-3 cabs. I loved the way they sounded at home, but they have a large footprint and overall size that weren't compatible with the back end of my Prius. I can get both of the Acmes, still my current favorites, into the back without putting the rear seat down. Logistics.. with my old Camry wagon, there would have been no issue with hauling both of the Genzlers. Ultimately, it wound up having $1500 tied up in two cabinets which were way too much sound for anything I do. I splurged on the ProAudioLand sale on Cyberweek after Thanksgiving when the cabs were 20% off and shouldn't have. I couldn't justify keeping them with the church and theatre gigs I'm doing. But they sounded phenomenal, and I would still say that any of you who can afford these cabs should look into them.
I do, however, still have my Quilter Bass Block 800, and would recommend it to any of you who want a huge power, very sweet sounding, and simple to operate head. It's remarkable and is definitely a keeper.
Gig reports: I'll be working two theatre shows. The first is [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] for Encore Theatrical Arts in Morristown. Dates are March 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 and 12. The second is
Mame at Oak Ridge Playhouse, which will be May/June with dates to be announced.
I'm excited about both shows for different reasons.
Bridges is a
Jason Robert Brown show, and he is a unique composer - very contemporary and unlike most theatre people. No
Rodgers and Hammerstein there. So the bass part will be fun and a challenge. I'm picking up my score this week and will report more then. The only downsides are the driving back and forth from Knoxville, although several of us are carpooling, and the musicians will be in the pit, which is a strange unfinished basement kind of thing under the stage.
Mame is a old traditional show but is packed with memorable music and will bring back good memories from when I played it last. That was 2004 at the Bijou Theatre in Knoxville with the long-defunct Bijou Theatre Center company.
