East Tennessee Talkbass

have family near Morristown and Johnson City.
Is there a rock/alt rock sceane in/around there? Just curious, relocation due to family has been considered.
Only have visited for holidays/functions in the past. I know there's Pigeon Forge and Gatlanberg (sp?), but just curious.

There's good and great rock and alt-rock from Greeneville to Kingsport to Bristol to Erwin in this area, including in Johnson City. I don't know about "scene," exactly, because I don't travel in those genres as much. But check out Capone's Johnson City and The Hideaway JC on your social media channels and scope the bands that play those two venues. Kingsport has more, but I never get up there.

Go, b-bottom! Hope your funding campaign goes well.

Wanted to ask what everyone is doing this Memorial Day weekend, either musically or otherwise?

Absolutely nothing. Hit the lake yesterday and learned I don't like paddleboards. PEDALboards, however? I've been reconstructing mine. Have an H9MAX on the way I found on Reverb for cheap enough.

What are you up to?

Your question actually pertained to Memday weekend - I didn't do much that weekend, just stayed out of the crowds! But - My today answer is: First rehearsal tonight for Encore Theatrical's July production of Mamma Mia!

Although the original ABBA bass players did not play 5-strings, this score has a number of songs that call for 5. I may try to rewrite the songs to fit on 4, but for now, I'm planning on using either or both of my G&L L-2500 and Steinberger Synapse 5. Some songs call for chorus, and I want to use compression for the disco songs, so I'm going to try the Zoom B3 tonight and see what haps. I'm going to do some overdrive on the more rocking songs. Most likely I will play into the Genz Shuttle 9.2/12-T combo, but may experiment with using the Quilter BB and my Dr.Bass 1260T cab.

As Richard knows (are you out there, @iamoldschool? Hope you are doing okay.) I'm getting my Invalid Link Removed fix the next few weeks, starting tonight! Double Big Pal and Frenchies! Yeaaaaaa!

Hey, Michael - Welcome back to MOTOWN! Let me know you rehearsal schedule and perhaps we could meet up for dinner one evening if you have time and aren't too attached to Pal's. We have a Tennessee Jack's close to WSCC that has some wings I've been diggin' on. I might be convinced to bring along my new Jetglo Rickenbacker 4003s5 to show you as well. Also have a Mesa Walkabout 12 I picked up not long ago that I really like too. We need to have another GTG before fall.

Hows that Ric 5er working out for you?

I really like it so far. As you know, I have several quality basses and it measures up quite well. I haven't even touched my P5 since it arrived, I'm ashamed to say. I do pat the case when I walk past it, though. It definitely won't replace the P5, but we're still in the honeymoon phase right now so it's getting a lot of action. :D

Unlike Bridges of Madison County, Encore is performing Mamma Mia! at Jefferson County High. We can still try to meet up for din somewhere. I do plan on hitting Pal's several times at least! That Big Pal Monday night was sooo good.

Let's do some prelim talking up for an ETTB GTG this summer. It's been quite a while since the last well-attended one. I was looking at pictures from that one, and they are dated August, 2012!

I had to get my Pal's fix a couple of weeks ago. I gave up on an excuse to be up in that area. My craving hit it's limit and I just motored up to the closest one to me (Jefferson City), ate until I was about sick, munched on frenchie fries all the way back to Murrville.

I would love to see everyone again. A late summer GTG would be best for me, it's going to be pretty full at work for the next couple of months.

I'll be on double bass doing an acoustic set with Clint Keeton this Friday at The Burgers in Lenoir City if anyone is down this way.

Sounds good - My fave place in Jeff Co is Lisa's Country Kitchen out on Hwy 92. Want to make sure you get your Pal's on though. Odd they are performing at Jefferson County HS. Maybe hoping to attract some Knoxville and Morristown clientele by being right in the middle.

Yes, 6-7 years is a long time. I'm sure some of you guys have aged during that time.:smug:

In talking to the director, she said that they needed the stage space for the set for MM!, more than is available in the Inman Auditorium.

Russ, the guitar player for this show who also played Bridges, and I are glad it's in Jeff City instead of Mo-town! Around 17 miles shorter one way from Knox.

Jeff, give us your earliest availability for the GTG. I may have "founded" ETTB, but you are the Godfather! You must be there!

I'm glad you got your Pal's fix.. I had not had any since the Feb. 2017 show in Motown, and gosh it was good! All you other ETTB'ers who love burgers and fries who have not had Pal's.. you need to do a road trip, if necessary (look at Jeff!) and try it out. You'll be unright the rest of your life!

I have a similar problem with Prince's Hot Chicken.. and now Invalid Link Removed!

Pal's showed up in the list of fast food chains that Knoxvillains want, that was published in the KNS last week. Why can't Knoxvull, or Murrvull, have a Pal's!!!? Somebody pony up and franchise here! Jeff? :)

Crazy day for me tomorrow, but if I can talk Ms. T into a evening excurse, I will come hear you play the big bass, which I haven't heard you play before. What time is Clint starting? --- MV

Early show 6:30 to 8:30. Going to confirm the detail with Clint, if it's outdoors on their patio, stay tuned. I won't bring the big boy to an outdoor show, regardless of if it's raining!

I've been in the Knoxville area for 30+ years and asked back then why we couldn't have a Pal's. My brother asked the owner, the answer is the same 30 years later, they don't want to grow bigger than they are and lose control of quality.

Little known trivia fact, Pal's is the ONLY fast food franchise to win the Malcom Baldridge National Quality Award!

I don't think Pal's offers franchises either. I think they are all corporate owned.
